The Anderson County Library System is seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused Outreach & Mobile Services Assistant to help connect people with library resources beyond our buildings. This position plays a vital role in delivering library services through our Bookmobile, community outreach events, and mobile service initiatives throughout Anderson County.

What You'll Do
As an Outreach & Mobile Services Assistant, you'll help expand access to library services by:
  • Staffing regularly scheduled Bookmobile stops as part of a rotating service schedule.
  • Assisting with outreach events, community programs, and special off-site visits.
  • Operating Bookmobile and other library vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Issuing library cards and assisting patrons with circulation services.
  • Helping patrons locate materials, answer questions, and navigate library resources.
  • Providing excellent customer service in person and by phone.
  • Assisting patrons with public computers, copiers, and other library equipment.
  • Preparing, sorting, transporting, and delivering library materials between library locations and consortium libraries.
  • Serving as a courier by transporting library materials, supplies, and interoffice mail.
  • Monitoring and restocking library vending machines and outreach collections.
  • Assisting with routine cleaning and maintenance of Bookmobile and courier vehicles, including inspections and reporting maintenance concerns.
  • Maintaining Extension Department supplies and distributing requested materials to branches.
  • Performing administrative and clerical tasks that support daily department operations.
  • Tracking usage statistics and maintaining confidential patron records.
  • Cross-training to provide support throughout the library system as needed.
  • Maintaining flexibility to meet changing service demands, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of customer service or related work experience; library experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record for the past five (5) years.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, internet use, and keyboarding.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and adapt to changing daily schedules.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to learn library circulation systems, the Dewey Decimal System, and library policies and procedures.
  • The ability to maintain confidential patron information.
  • The ability to safely operate library vehicles and transport materials throughout the county.
  • The ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility and may include evening and weekend hours based on outreach schedules, community events, and operational needs.
