We curate vehicles submitted by our audience and craft transparent auction listings that present the vehicles as they are-without superlatives or dubious used-car-lot language. BaT's ever-growing community of knowledgeable users vets each listing so potential buyers can bid with confidence.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented senior and mid-level software engineers. This team will be instrumental in migrating our auction platform from WordPress to a cutting-edge AWS serverless architecture. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, proven leadership capabilities, and a passion for delivering on high-impact projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a cross-functional team of senior and mid-level software engineers
  • Ability to perform hands-on development as an individual contributor
  • Drive the successful migration of our auction site from WordPress to AWS serverless infrastructure
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and stakeholders to define technical requirements and project timelines
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, code quality, and agile best practices
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance throughout the migration process
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success
  • Manage resource allocation, performance reviews, and professional development for team members

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Strong background in AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.)
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as JavaScript, Typescript, Node, React, and Python
  • Experience with migrating legacy systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and infrastructure as code
  • Experience with modern web architectural patterns
  • AWS certification: Developer or Solution Architect
  • Familiarity with WordPress architecture and development
  • Experience in agile development methodologies
  • Domain knowledge of auctions, two-sided marketplaces, or e-commerce platforms is a plus

This is a full-time, remote position with occasional travel required. In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in California or New York. The reasonable estimate, if hired in California or New York, is $190,000-$210,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in California or New York. For all other locations not listed above, the reasonable estimate is $171,000-$207,000. A final decision on the successful candidate's starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
