Full Time Aws Serverless Developer information

What does a full time AWS serverless developer do?

A Full Time AWS Serverless Developer designs, develops, and maintains cloud-based applications using AWS serverless services like Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and S3. Their work involves building scalable and cost-effective solutions that don't require managing traditional servers. They are responsible for writing code, integrating AWS services, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the security and performance of applications. Serverless developers also collaborate with other team members to deliver robust solutions aligned with business needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time AWS serverless developer?

To thrive as a Full Time AWS Serverless Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as Python, Node.js, or JavaScript), in-depth knowledge of serverless architecture, and hands-on experience with AWS services like Lambda, API Gateway, and DynamoDB. Familiarity with cloud development tools, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions like AWS CloudFormation or SAM, and relevant AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Developer – Associate) are typically required. Problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the development of efficient, scalable, and reliable serverless applications that align with business objectives and adapt quickly to changing requirements.

What are the common challenges faced by a full time AWS serverless developer when deploying applications at scale?

A Full Time AWS Serverless Developer often encounters challenges related to managing the complexity of distributed serverless architectures, such as coordinating multiple AWS Lambda functions, ensuring efficient API Gateway integrations, and handling cold starts. Monitoring and debugging across numerous microservices can also be more complex than in traditional architectures. Additionally, optimizing costs and managing service limits require careful planning, especially as applications scale and usage patterns change. Collaboration with DevOps and security teams is crucial to ensure best practices in deployment and compliance.

What is the difference between Full Time Aws Serverless Developer vs Cloud Engineer?

AspectFull Time Aws Serverless DeveloperCloud Engineer

Work EnvironmentFocus on designing, developing, and deploying serverless applications on AWSManage and optimize cloud infrastructure across multiple services and platforms
Industry UsagePrimarily in companies adopting serverless solutions and AWS cloudIn diverse organizations managing overall cloud infrastructure, including serverless components

While both roles involve AWS cloud expertise, a Full Time Aws Serverless Developer specializes in building serverless applications using AWS services, whereas a Cloud Engineer manages broader cloud infrastructure, including serverless, virtual machines, and networking. The developer role is more focused on application development, while the engineer oversees the entire cloud environment.

Job description

Title: Backend javascript Engineer - SME with Node.js and AWS

Description:

Netsuite position... the client is looking for BACKEND developer with Javascript knowledge (Node.js) AND solid experience with AWS... this is a 100% NEARSHORE role (Mexico or LATAM) - Job Description says 5+ years but we are looking for a SENIOR guy that can really help the client and is mature enough to get the job done.

Hard Skills and Soft Skills:

Key tech stack: Node.js (vanilla JavaScript, not TypeScript), serverless architecture on AWS: Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, DynamoDB/NoSQL, as well as SQL (Snowflake is a plus). Some Azure experience is good but AWS is preferred.

Functional profile: 5+ years in backend engineering, comfortable with microservices, event-driven architectures, ETL/data workflows, working with external data/third parties, e-commerce experience is a nice to have. Minimal front-end requirement (basic Vue.js/HTML is ok).

Soft skills: Strong computer science fundamentals, ability to jump between projects, wear multiple hats, tolerate ambiguity and longer processes, clear communicator (especially with remote/US teams). Someone who can learn NetSuite integrations rather than needing to know them already.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer working with JavaScript and Node.js.
  • Strong experience building microservices and event-driven architectures (publish/subscribe, async flows, queue-based processing).
  • Previous experience working in e-commerce environments is highly valued.
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS. Hands-on experience with: Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, DynamoDB, API Gateway and S3.
  • Experience working with serverless architectures and distributed systems.
  • Strong skills in SQL (experience with Snowflake is a plus).
  • Experience using monitoring/observability tools (DataDog preferred) for logs, metrics, dashboards and KPIs.
  • Ability to design, implement and maintain high-throughput ETL pipelines, async jobs and backend workflows.
  • Excellent communication skills: able to clearly articulate needs, blockers and technical decisions.
  • Proven ability to take ownership from end to end: validating requirements, aligning with Product Owners/Tech Leads/QA, ensuring delivery quality and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Experience working with US-based teams or fast-paced international environments.

Must have

  • Experience with NetSuite integrations or ERP-related workflows.
  • Experience defining error-handling strategies for event-driven systems.
  • Experience creating dashboards or KPIs for system health and observability.
  • Background working with high-volume data pipelines or large-scale async processing.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Terraform or infrastructure-as-code.
