The Opportunity
oin Hitachi Energy and help deliver critical substation infrastructure that supports the reliability, safety, and performance of the power grid. In this role, you will manage Secondary Engineering (Control & Protection) activities across the full lifecycle of Air-Insulated Substation (AIS) and Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV. You will work on a wide range of engineering activities, including protection philosophies, communication architectures, AC/DC schematic design, substation automation, and detailed engineering documentation. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and commissioning personnel, you will help develop practical and cost-effective solutions for complex projects while supporting successful project execution from design through construction and commissioning. Your work will contribute directly to dependable grid operation, project quality, and continuous improvement initiatives while providing opportunities to expand your technical expertise across advanced substation technologies and protection systems.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Manage Secondary Engineering (Control & Protection) activities throughout the lifecycle of AIS and GIS substation projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and external partners to support successful project delivery.
  • Develop control and protection scope documents, design packages, and customer-focused engineering solutions.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for Secondary Engineering activities across proposals and projects.
  • Create detailed engineering documents, including protection single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, communication architectures, and AC/DC schematics.
  • Support installation and commissioning teams during construction and project execution phases.
  • Evaluate project risks and collaborate with project engineering teams to implement mitigation strategies.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives and support the development of innovative and cost-effective technical solutions.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in electromechanical engineering.
  • Experience developing protection single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, communication architectures, and AC/DC schematic designs for substation applications.
  • Knowledge of substation protection relays, relay configuration, load flow studies, short circuit studies, arc flash studies, protection settings, CT/VT sizing, and transmission relay loadability studies.
  • Understanding of substation automation systems, NERC requirements, cybersecurity requirements, NEC standards, ANSI/IEEE standards, and high-voltage AIS and GIS technologies.
  • Experience with relay setting and configuration software, engineering drawing tools such as E3 or AutoCAD, and possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one; willingness to travel up to 20%.
