What is a full time art class model?

Full Time Art Class Models are professional individuals who pose for artists, students, or classes to help them practice and improve their drawing, painting, or sculpting skills. These models may pose in a variety of settings, often holding still positions for extended periods, and can be clothed or nude depending on the requirements of the class. Their role is essential in art education, as they provide real-life reference for anatomy, proportion, and form. Full time models typically work for art schools, colleges, or community programs and may pose for a range of artistic disciplines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time art class model?

To thrive as a Full Time Art Class Model, you need body awareness, the ability to hold poses for extended periods, and reliability, with some positions preferring prior experience or training in modeling. Familiarity with art studio protocols and posing techniques is often required, but no formal certifications or technical tools are typically necessary. Professionalism, punctuality, and a comfortable attitude toward nudity or costuming are important soft skills that help models work effectively with instructors and students. These skills ensure that classes run smoothly and that artists have the consistent, high-quality reference they need for their work.

What are some common challenges faced by full time art class models, and how can they be managed?

Full-time art class models often face challenges such as maintaining long poses, managing physical discomfort, and adapting to varying classroom environments. To manage these challenges, models should practice stretching and relaxation techniques, communicate openly with instructors about needed breaks, and stay hydrated. Building stamina and developing an awareness of their own physical limits helps ensure a positive experience for both the model and the artists. Working collaboratively with instructors and students also fosters a respectful and supportive environment.

Job description

The Oglethorpe University Core Program is seeking adjunct instructors to teach Oglethorpe’s unique Core 104: Art and Culture class during the Fall 2026 semester. Our Core Art and Culture course is an exciting approach to the general education breadth requirement in art. Students in this course develop understanding of the basic chronology of Western culture, improve broad cultural literacy, and look at how art reflects the human condition as they encounter great works of Western and non-Western cultures from ancient to modern times. Successful applicants must be interested in student-centered teaching. Applicants will be expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by engaging in and promoting diverse teaching, learning, and mentoring communities.

Teaching assignments will be based on instructor experience, areas of expertise, and availability. Course sections meet 3 hours/week (either three 60-minute sessions or two 90-minute sessions).  For more information about the teaching schedule, please reach out to the Director of Core Studies, at coredirectors@oglethorpe.edu.

Oglethorpe is committed to fostering a campus community and intellectual environment that recruits and maintains diverse faculty and staff, promotes a culture of respect for diverse experiences and perspectives, and understands and addresses the role of inequality in shaping our individual and collective identities. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development. Adjunct faculty will be mentored and supported by full-time Art/Core faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a collaborative community.

The university currently enrolls a diverse population of approximately 1,500 students who represent more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups, whose work furthers the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:
