A Pre-K Relief Teacher is an instructional teacher who collaborates within the preschool classroom to support the delivery of high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction. This position provides instructional support during teacher preparation periods throughout the day and when additional assistance is required; while ensuring the maintenance of a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for all students. The Relief Teacher works in collaboration with the classroom paraprofessional to implement instruction aligned to the New Jersey Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards. Key responsibilities include co-planning, co-teaching, and supporting the consistent implementation of district curriculum and instructional practices. Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field
-Preschool through Grade 3 (P-3) certification
-Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for preschool-aged children.
-Experience supporting diverse learners, including students with IEPs and multilingual learners.
-Experience working with young children in a preschool or early childhood setting.
-Ability to maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment.

Responsibilities:

-Provide instructional coverage during classroom teachers' preparation periods while maintaining continuity of learning and established classroom routines.
-Implement lesson plans and instructional activities that promote children's social-emotional, language, literacy, mathematics, science, and physical development.
-Utilize developmentally appropriate practices, differentiated instruction, and evidence-based strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
-Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-plan, co-teach, and reinforce learning objectives across preschool classrooms.
-Collect observational data and student work samples to monitor progress and inform instructional decision-making.
-Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), accommodations, modifications, and intervention strategies for students with identified needs.
-Foster positive relationships with students through responsive interactions, positive behavior supports, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
-Create and maintain a safe, engaging, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes active learning and student independence.
-Facilitate small-group, whole-group, and individualized instruction to support student growth and achievement.
-Adhere to all district policies, New Jersey Department of Education regulations, and health and safety procedures.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Supervisor
Salary:
Starting salary is $67,000 - commensurate with experience and in accordance with the Hillside Education Association's collective bargaining agreement
