Position Purpose:
All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI's vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country.
Key Responsibilities
  • Under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist, or designee, properly prepare for and support all designated procedures.
  • Works in all areas of surgery to support all aspects of anesthesia care, including pre and post-surgical procedures
  • Address difficult or conflict situations constructively and seeks appropriate assistance.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory, organizational, and departmental policies and procedures, under the supervision of the anesthesiologist.
  • Actively participates in ongoing quality and process improvement.
  • Maintains and protects patient confidentiality.
  • Performs routine maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
  • Coordinates patient care and monitoring equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care units.
  • Manages work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities i.e.; keep assigned rooms stocked, clean and ready for our next patient; Works with perioperative team to facilitate a prompt room turnover.
  • Considers budget while maintaining sufficient stock, and reviews for outdates, supplies and non-scheduled drugs in the anesthesia workroom, machines, carts and auxiliary anesthetizing locations.

Qualifications
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Paramedic Program (may be evidenced by current national or Arizona Paramedic certification.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of comparable patient care experience and/or emergency services
Certification: BLS, ACLS, and PALS though the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
License: N/A
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Keyboarding skills: must be able to use designated computer software applications
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in the anesthesia equipment, including proper quality assurance, storage and troubleshooting
  • Utilizes effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes while meeting KHI vision and mission

Preferences
Education:
  • Associate or other advanced degree in a healthcare related field
  • Completion of an ASATT certification eligible Anesthesia Tech program

Experience: Minimum or 1 year experience in a Cardiac OR and/or Level 1 Trauma Center.
Certification:
  • ASATT certification as an Anesthesia Technologist
  • National or Arizona state certification as a Paramedic

License: N/A

Special Position Requirements
Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues
Work Requirements
  • Able to demonstrate manual dexterity and mechanical ability.
  • Must be able to stand or walk continuously, for the duration of the entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to assist with patient transfers using designated resources.
