In Biomedical Engineering at Main Campus McWane Building
Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift, Monday-Friday, 7:00am- 3:30pm.
Summary:
Responsible for the performance of medical equipment, preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, and equipment management. Responsible for customer relations in reference to patients, visitors, hospital staff, physicians, and fellow Biomed technicians. As a Biomedical Equipment Technician, in order to carry out the specific responsibilities outlined below the Vision of the Hospital - A BETTER CHILDHOOD FOR ALL CHILDREN - must be ever present. To accomplish the overall Hospital Mission, you must exhibit Integrity, Innovation, Commitment to Personal Development, and a Commitment to Children.
Other information:
Knowledge of various biomedical equipment including operation and servicing of this equipment. Knowledge of the use of specialized test equipment, various hand/power tools and equipment service documentation. The ability to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems as well as the ability to locate parts necessary for repairs.
Proactively takes a lead role in mentoring new technicians and students.
2 years of experience and one of the following requirements listed below:
  1. Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician Certificate (CBET), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), or Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES)
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Health Related Science
  3. Documented Equipment Service Training in specialized equipment related to the function of the TCHS as determined by the Director of Biomedical Engineering

The Children's of Alabama Biomedical Engineering department provides safety and support for patients and clinical staff through medical equipment management. The department is responsible for the safety of the entire medical equipment inventory, including almost 20,000 devices ranging from blood pressure machines to x-ray systems. The Biomedical Engineering Medical Equipment Management Plan is designed to ensure the safety of medical equipment used in the hospital, in compliance with regulatory mandates, in a cost-effective way. The management of medical equipment includes technical and engineering support with expertise in asset management, regulatory compliance, safety, operational instruction, and equipment maintenance services. Regulatory compliance is a top priority for the Biomedical Engineering department ensuring local, state, and federal standards are met. The department ensures electrical safety for medical equipment through scheduled, rigorous preventive maintenance, and safety checks. Equipment maintenance services include preventive maintenance, repair, and calibrations to ensure optimal operation and safety of medical equipment. The Biomedical Engineering and Technical teams provide high quality support to ensure the safety, accuracy, and reliability of medical equipment at Children's of Alabama.
