The Electrical Engineer designs and delivers electrical and controls solutions that power safe, efficient, and innovative baggage handling systems. This role transforms technical requirements into integrated designs that ensure compliance, reliability, and measurable client value. By focusing on outcomes, the Electrical Engineer drives project success, enhances client trust, and strengthens VTC’s reputation for technical excellence.

Key Outcomes

  • Design Excellence: Develop and deliver electrical and controls designs that meet client specifications, align with codes and standards (examples: UL, CE, OSHA, NFPA and NEC), and ensure systems are safe, efficient, and future-ready.
  • Integration & Collaboration: Collaborate across disciplines (mechanical, design, contractors, and stakeholders) to produce fully coordinated systems that minimize conflicts, reduce rework, and deliver on schedule.
  • Technical Leadership: Apply knowledge of PLCs, ladder logic, and network protocols (ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP) to ensure robust system performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Risk Management: Anticipate and resolve risks in electrical and control design, installation/integration, and commissioning phases to safeguard safety, system reliability, and compliance.
  • Quality Assurance: Embed quality into every phase of design and delivery by reviewing contractor submittals, participating in Factory Acceptance Testing, and ensuring installation and commissioning meets specifications and client expectations.
  • Documentation & Standards: Maintain and develop VTC’s master electrical and controls specifications, producing accurate, clear design documents, drawings, and calculations that support project delivery and create repeatable best practices.
  • Client Partnership: Translate client requirements into effective design solutions while fostering strong relationships built on trust, responsiveness, and technical credibility.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Research, evaluate, and apply new electrical and controls technologies to improve design efficiency, system reliability, and maintainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; or equivalent experience (3-5 years in electrical design for baggage handling systems or related industry).
  • Proficiency in high/low voltage design, motor controls, I/O systems (examples: photocells, shaft encoders, push button stations).
  • Familiarity with PLC programming and ladder logic.
  • Understanding of industry codes and standards (UL, CE, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, CEMA).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and control system issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; bonus skills include Autodesk Revit, Bluebeam Revu, and other CAD software.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.

Qualifications (Continued)

  • Ability to travel 20% per month. This could include short trips for site verification or longer trips for system testing. The amount of travel per month will vary depending on the number of projects and the specific phases and tasks for those projects.

Success Profile

  • Balances precision in design with practical, field-ready solutions.
  • Brings creative solutions to complex electrical and control challenges.
  • Anticipates problems and addresses them before they affect safety, budget, or schedule.
  • Works effectively in multidisciplinary teams and builds credibility with contractors and clients.
  • Thrives in both office-based design work and field-based commissioning and inspections.
