E.O. Smith High School is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and thoughtful individual who can contribute to our school's diversity through their teaching, scholarship, and/or service to the institution.
The Special Services Department is comprised of 46 full-time teaching, related services, and support staff. The new special education teacher will work with a team of professionals providing functional academic support and specialized transition instruction to students with special needs attending our Students Transitioning Age Appropriate Routes (STAAR) 18 22 transition program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess or be eligible for Connecticut certificate: (165) Comprehensive Special Education, K-12.
  • Possess qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Experience or demonstrated understanding of providing culturally relevant instruction is preferred.
  • Experience teaching modified English Language Arts curriculum preferred.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop specialized instructional programs for students attending our 18 22 transition program.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers and support staff to develop and implement effective transition programs.
  • Assess student progress by administering appropriate assessments and curriculum-based measures.
  • Support active student participation in their learning and in the development and implementation of their IEP.
  • Develop and implement appropriate transition plans.
  • Utilize student data effectively to plan student remediation, acceleration, and intervention.
  • Actively participate in both department and school-wide professional development opportunities and school-sponsored events.

SALARY: In accordance with the agreement between the Region 19 Board of Education and the Region 19 Teachers' Association. 2026-27 salary range is $53857-$109234.
