Job description

About 1X
We're an AI and robotics company based in San Carlos, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.
We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That's why we're focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life.
We're looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we'd be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Prototyping Technician - 3D Printing to join our Prototyping Team and support rapid hardware iteration across the company. In this hands-on role, you will operate and maintain a fleet of 3D printers, optimize printing workflows, and collaborate with engineers to enable faster and more reliable prototyping. You'll also contribute to the design of fixtures, tooling, and prototype assemblies that directly support the development of humanoid robots. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Palo Alto.
Responsibilities
  • Operate FDM, SLA, and SLS 3D printers, including job setup, parameter adjustments, troubleshooting, and post-processing
  • Maintain and improve print systems to ensure reliable machine performance and workflow efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineers to optimize CAD models for printability and part quality
  • Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and tools to support prototyping and validation
  • Assemble and test prototypes, contributing to functional builds of mechanical systems
  • Document print parameters, test outcomes, and process improvements for repeatability
  • Manage lab organization, materials inventory, and part tracking
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities within the 3D printing workflow
Requirements
  • Hands-on experience with a range of 3D printing methods (e.g., FDM, SLA)
  • Proficiency with slicing software such as PrusaSlicer, Cura, or PreForm
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Onshape
  • Strong mechanical assembly and troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable with post-processing techniques including washing, curing, sanding, or tapping
  • Bonus: Experience with additional print methods such as SLS or DLP
  • Bonus: Background in robotics, mechatronics, or building functional mechanical systems
  • Bonus: Experience designing and iterating on fixtures or test rigs
Benefits & Compensation
