Job Summary/Basic Function
Join Our Team at Millersville University!
The Economics department at times needs temporary, part-time instructors to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals and leaves or meet student needs in high-demand courses.
Positions involve teaching sections of Principles of Macroeconomics and/or Microeconomics (other courses may be available based on Departmental need and instructor qualifications) in face-to-face, online, or hybrid modalities . Prepare course outline(s) and syllabus (syllabi), develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of textbook and other teaching aids necessary to the instruction of the course. Teach pertinent course subject using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, and other appropriate modes of educational delivery. Lead and monitor classroom and/or online instruction which promotes an educational and learning process keeping with faculty academic freedom and responsibility. Foster student development. Participate in co-curricular activities such as department colloquia and honors seminars is encouraged. Serve as an academic advisor to students and be available to faculty and students for consultation for questions in your area of expertise.
The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Duties and Responsibilities
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

CONTINUING SCHOLARLY GROWTH AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT and SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND/OR COMMUNITY:
In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Economics Department contributes to the mission and strategic plan of Millersville University by offering a major and minor that prepare students to live in an increasingly diverse, multicultural, and technologically complex society. Many of our courses also meet general education requirements. Additionally the Department provides a great deal of service to other programs, in particular majors and minors within Business Administration, International Studies, Social Studies Secondary Education, Music Industry, Environmental Studies, Applied Engineering, Safety and Technology and the Honors College.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Economics or related discipline.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and working with diverse student populations.
  • Successful interview and/or teaching demonstration for class teaching assignments
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or ABD in Economics or related discipline.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience.

  • Able to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
