Full Stack Teaching Assistant information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack teaching assistant?

To thrive as a Full Stack Teaching Assistant, you need a solid understanding of both front-end and back-end web development, often with hands-on experience in languages like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as React and Node.js. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), databases, and common learning management systems is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills help you effectively support students and collaborate with instructors. These abilities are crucial for providing technical guidance, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring student success in coding bootcamps or academic programs.

What is the difference between Full Stack Teaching Assistant vs Coding Instructor?

AspectFull Stack Teaching AssistantCoding Instructor
Required CredentialsTypically a background in computer science or related field, some certifications preferredOften requires teaching certifications or extensive coding experience
Work EnvironmentEducational institutions, coding bootcamps, online learning platformsEducational settings, coding bootcamps, workshops
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in academic and training environments to support studentsUsed to lead and deliver coding courses or workshops

While both roles involve teaching coding skills, a Full Stack Teaching Assistant primarily supports students in learning full stack development, often assisting instructors and providing hands-on help. A Coding Instructor leads classes, designs curriculum, and directly teaches coding concepts. The roles overlap in credentials and work environments but differ in responsibilities and leadership scope.

What are the main responsibilities of a full stack teaching assistant?

As a Full Stack Teaching Assistant in a coding bootcamp, your daily responsibilities include supporting students during lectures and hands-on coding activities, clarifying course material, and providing feedback on assignments. You'll collaborate closely with lead instructors to help design and deliver lessons, facilitate small group discussions or code reviews, and assist in troubleshooting technical issues students encounter. Additionally, you may help monitor student progress and provide one-on-one mentoring to ensure learners are keeping up with both front-end and back-end concepts. This role requires strong communication skills and a passion for helping others develop their coding abilities.

What is a full stack teaching assistant?

Full Stack Teaching Assistants are professionals who support instructors and students in learning environments focused on full stack web development. They assist with both front-end and back-end technologies, help clarify concepts, provide feedback on assignments, and may lead lab sessions or office hours. Their role often involves troubleshooting code, mentoring students, and facilitating effective learning in coding bootcamps or educational programs.

Job description

About POS360

We are a rapidly growing technology company specializing in point-of-sale payment processing and delivery integrations for locally owned brick-and-mortar stores. Our mission is to accelerate the transition from traditional electronic cash registers to powerful new point of sale products. Our highly specialized systems address the specific pain points identified through over a decade of working with neighborhood stores, markets, and restaurants. With an unrivaled dedication to delivering superior tools that are easy to use and a technical team providing industry-leading support, our systems open the door to the next level of success for our clients.

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Engineer Lead to guide the design, development, and delivery of our web applications end to end, while mentoring engineers and setting technical direction across the front-end and back-end stack.

This role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership; you’ll architect scalable systems, drive engineering best practices, and partner closely with product and design to ship high-quality software. You’ll also help shape how the team leverages AI-augmented development workflows, coding assistants, and agentic tooling to accelerate delivery.

What You’ll Own & Drive

Technical Leadership & Direction

  • Lead the architecture, design, and development of full stack applications spanning front-end (React/TypeScript) and back-end (Node.js, NestJS, TypeScript) systems.
  • Set technical direction and establish engineering standards, coding practices, and architectural patterns across the team.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers, conducting code reviews and fostering growth in both frontend and backend disciplines.
  • Own technical project planning, breaking down initiatives into milestones, estimating effort, and coordinating delivery with product managers and stakeholders.
  • Evaluate build vs. buy decisions, new technologies, and third-party services, and make recommendations to leadership.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver cohesive, high-quality features.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and troubleshoot complex production issues across the stack.

Architecture & Systems Engineering

  • Design and oversee scalable, secure, and performant systems, including microservices, RESTful and GraphQL APIs, and database architecture (SQL and MongoDB).
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and observability through sound DevOps, CI/CD, testing, and monitoring practices.

AI-Augmented Development

  • Drive adoption of AI coding assistants and agentic development tools (e.g., Claude AI, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve team velocity and code quality.
  • Champion integration of AI-powered features, LLM-backed endpoints, and agentic workflows (tool use, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-step orchestration) where they deliver clear business value.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full stack development across modern front-end and back-end technologies.
  • 2+ years in a technical lead, staff engineer, or engineering management capacity, with demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and drive technical decisions.
  • Strong proficiency in React and TypeScript on the front end, and Node.js/NestJS on the back end.
  • Deep understanding of system design, microservices architecture, and both object-oriented and functional programming paradigms.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL and MongoDB, including schema design, query optimization, and data modeling.
  • Proven experience designing and managing REST and GraphQL APIs at scale.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (Claude AI, ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of day-to-day development.
  • Exposure to integrating LLMs and agentic frameworks into production systems — e.g., Anthropic Claude API, OpenAI API, function/tool calling, MCP (Model Context Protocol), LangChain, or similar is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence for project tracking and documentation.
  • Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Benefits

  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible working hours
  • Free on-site gym access

This role is set in an exciting, fast-paced environment where innovation drives growth. We offer a collaborative atmosphere that fosters professional growth and development, with the opportunity to shape both the technical direction of our products and the growth of the engineering team.

Position is full-time from our Westlake Village, CA office.

Compensation range: $150,000 to $200,000 + Bonus
