Job description

Software Engineer II

The Software Engineer II is a high impact role within the newly structured Software Development team, responsible for the architectural integrity and performance of core applications. This individual not only executes tasks but owns the technical roadmap for seamless integrations and robust system logic. Working primarily with ColdFusion and React, this role serves as a bridge between business requirements and technical execution. This position is suited for a professional who thrives on solving complex organizational challenges, refining development processes, and elevating the technical standards of the entire team through active mentorship and strategic thinking.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • System Architecture: Spearhead the design and scalability of software applications, ensuring that all integrations align with long-term business strategy.
  • Standards & Governance: Define and maintain the department's coding standards and best practices, ensuring the codebase remains clean, performant, and maintainable.
  • Integration Leadership: Architect complex API integrations and data exchange workflows, conducting deep-dive research into third-party system requirements to ensure seamless connectivity.
  • Process Optimization: Proactively identify inefficiencies in the development lifecycle and implement modern solutions (e.g., CI/CD improvements or automated testing) to increase team velocity.
  • Technical Mentorship: Serve as the primary technical resource for Software Engineer I team members, providing the guidance and code-review feedback necessary to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Cross-Functional Liaison: Act as the technical point of contact for the Customer Service Team and other business units to translate high-level needs into technical specifications.
  • Full-Stack Ownership: Oversee the lifecycle of nationwide enterprise applications, from frontend React components to backend MySQL database optimization.
  • Project Scoping: Assist in the breakdown of complex business goals into actionable technical milestones, providing expert-level estimation and risk assessment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Tech Stack: Proven experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and React.
  • Backend & Logic: Experience with ColdFusion (willingness to be trained is acceptable) and MySQL.
  • API Mastery: Deep understanding of API methodologies (REST, SOAP) and data formats (JSON, XML, CSV).
  • Design Patterns: Knowledge of software design and architectural patterns.
  • Tooling: Proficiency with Git and project/ticket tracking software (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps).
  • Cloud Awareness: Experience with cloud environments (AWS or Azure) specifically regarding application deployment.
  • Problem Solving: Excellent analytical skills with a focus on root-cause analysis rather than just "quick fixes."
  • Communication: Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-Management: Ability to prioritize tasks in an agile environment and meet tight deadlines.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Application Development, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Technical Requirements:
    • JavaScript/React: 3–4 years.
    • APIs/Integrations: 3–4 years.
    • CSS/Frontend: 3–4 years.
    • Database/Backend: 2–3 years.
  • AWS Certified Developer Associate or similar development-centric certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
