A Full Stack Python Developer is a software engineer who is proficient in both front-end and back-end development using Python as the primary programming language for server-side logic. They are responsible for designing, building, and maintaining web applications, ensuring seamless integration between the user interface and the server. Full Stack Python Developers typically work with frameworks like Django or Flask for the backend, and use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend. Their skill set allows them to manage databases, create APIs, and handle deployment, making them versatile contributors to software development teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack Python Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Python Developer, you need proficiency in Python programming, front-end (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), back-end frameworks like Django or Flask, and a solid understanding of databases and RESTful APIs. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and containerization tools (Docker) is typically required, along with relevant certifications being an advantage. Problem-solving, adaptability, and strong communication skills help developers collaborate effectively and address complex technical challenges. These combined technical and soft skills are crucial for delivering robust, scalable applications and ensuring smooth teamwork in dynamic development environments.

What are some common challenges Full Stack Python Developers face when managing both front-end and back-end tasks?

Full Stack Python Developers often juggle multiple responsibilities, including designing user interfaces and ensuring robust server-side logic. One frequent challenge is efficiently switching between front-end frameworks (like React or Angular) and back-end Python code, which requires staying up-to-date with technologies on both ends. Additionally, integrating APIs, troubleshooting cross-platform issues, and maintaining code consistency can be complex in fast-paced environments. Effective communication with UI/UX designers and DevOps teams is also crucial to ensure seamless deployments and user experiences.

New York, NY

Job description

New York City, NY · On-site (5 days/week preferred) · Full-time
Compensation: $240,000–$270,000 + 0.5%–1% equity

About the Company

A Series A AI startup automating manual risk and compliance operations for fintechs and banks. Its reasoning engine ingests third-party contracts, internal policies, legal commitments, and external legislation to auto-surface and track risks, cutting partner diligence time by roughly 10x without added headcount. The company reached $1M–$2M ARR within two months of its Series A and runs with a small, elite, fast-shipping engineering team.
Founded 2023 · 1–10 people · Industry: Fintech / Compliance / AI

The Role

We're hiring full-stack engineers to expand two product lines (vendor risk management and marketing compliance, including a dedicated ML track). You'll ship across the stack, work directly with customers weekly, drive your own roadmap, and operate at near-founder level alongside the founding team — with a path to leading expansion into new product areas.

What you'll be doing

  • Build and ship full-stack features across Python, FastAPI, React, and Next.js
  • Work directly with customers weekly, translating feedback into improvements that work for all clients
  • Drive roadmap items based on your own customer interactions and product vision
  • Build infrastructure and systems that are extensible and scalable, not just fast
  • Contribute to architectural and technical decisions alongside the founding team
  • Lead expansion into new product areas as the company grows

Tech stack: Python, FastAPI, React, Next.js

Requirements
  • 4 to 7 years full-stack engineering experience, staff-level thinking
  • Python and FastAPI backend proficiency
  • React and Next.js frontend proficiency
  • High agency, identifies and solves problems without being asked
  • Customer-facing, can interface with clients weekly
  • Cares about product quality and real user impact
Green Flags
  • Has worked at or would meet the bar for top-tier companies like Anthropic or Clay
  • Startup experience, especially building products from zero to one and seeing them grow with real users
  • Infrastructure or backend engineering background that demonstrates holistic systems thinking
  • Degree from Caltech, MIT, UIUC, Waterloo, or equivalent top engineering program
  • Founder mentality, has started something, led something, or talks about their work in terms of outcomes not just implementation
  • Can articulate how what they built was actually being used, cares about adoption and user impact not just technical elegance
Red Flags
  • Entire career spent at big tech with no startup exposure, often comes with risk aversion and process expectations that do not fit a 7-person team
  • Talks about their work purely in technical specifications with no connection to whether it was actually used or drove value
  • Needs structured processes and handoffs to operate effectively
  • Not willing to be customer-facing
  • Not based in or willing to relocate to New York City, in-person culture is important to the team
Why Join
  • Near-founder ownership: drive your own roadmap from direct customer interactions, with a path to leading new product areas
  • Elite, flat, fast-shipping team holding a very high engineering bar
  • Strong early traction and meaningful equity for early hires
