Job description

Description

HyerTek is a federal technology consulting firm delivering secure enterprise applications, data analytics, cloud infrastructure, and modernization services to federal government agencies.

HyerTek is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to build, secure, and modernize enterprise applications operating in Azure Government and classified environments. This is a hands-on senior engineering position-not a people-management role-with primary responsibility for Node.js, Express, JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, and SQL Server or Azure SQL.

You will help modernize an established application from an embedded database to a production-grade Azure SQL architecture while preserving its functionality, access controls, integrations, and audit history. You will work alongside solution architecture, cloud, DevSecOps, cybersecurity, business analysis, analytics, and QA professionals on an integrated delivery team.

AI-assisted development is central to how this team works. You will use approved coding agents and development tools to analyze repositories, plan changes, generate and refactor code, create tests, troubleshoot defects, and maintain documentation. You will remain accountable for the quality, security, and maintainability of everything delivered.

Requirements

  • Design, build, test, and maintain full-stack applications using Node.js, Express, JavaScript/TypeScript, and SQL Server or Azure SQL.
  • Own features across the user interface, API, business-logic, integration, and data-access layers.
  • Lead the migration from an embedded database to Azure SQL, including asynchronous data access, SQL-dialect conversion, versioned migrations, connection management, and performance tuning.
  • Build secure, versioned REST APIs with consistent validation, error handling, structured logging, authentication, and authorization.
  • Preserve critical security controls, including deny-by-default authorization, role- and scope-based access, protected-data masking, and complete audit logging.
  • Implement enterprise identity capabilities such as CAC/PIV authentication, DoD PKI integration, certificate validation, secure sessions, and server-side access control.
  • Build and maintain secure integrations with external systems using well-defined and version-controlled contracts.
  • Use approved AI-assisted development tools to accelerate analysis, implementation, refactoring, testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Review and validate AI-generated changes for correctness, security, performance, accessibility, licensing, and maintainability.
  • Develop accessible user experiences that conform to applicable Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
  • Write reliable unit, integration, API, security, accessibility, and end-to-end automated tests.
  • Remediate OWASP, DISA Application Security and Development STIG, and other application-security findings.
  • Support containerized deployment through GitHub Enterprise and Azure DevOps pipelines using hardened images and automated quality and security gates.
  • Participate in design reviews, pull-request reviews, sprint activities, demonstrations, Government acceptance, and production troubleshooting.
  • Produce technical documentation and as-built materials suitable for customer handoff.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of hands-on software-development experience supporting production enterprise applications.
  • Strong professional experience with Node.js, Express, modern JavaScript, and TypeScript.
  • Experience building full-stack web applications, REST APIs, background services, and database-backed business systems.
  • Strong SQL and relational data-modeling skills, including SQL Server or Azure SQL, T-SQL, transactions, schema migrations, indexing, and referential integrity.
  • Experience modernizing a mature application or completing another large, cross-cutting refactor without regressing system behavior.
  • Experience implementing authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and secure session or token management.
  • Experience with automated testing, Git, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines, and container-based deployment.
  • Working knowledge of secure coding and experience addressing application-security findings.
  • Experience using GitHub Enterprise and/or Azure DevOps for source control, code review, work tracking, and automated delivery.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools or coding agents in professional software-delivery workflows.
  • Ability to give AI-assisted development tools clear context and constraints and independently validate the resulting code through review, testing, and security analysis.
  • Strong debugging, code-review, documentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with architects, security engineers, QA staff, analysts, and Government stakeholders.
  • Active Department of Defense TS/SCI clearance.
  • DoD 8140/8570 baseline certification appropriate for the assigned role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering applications in Azure Government, Azure Government Secret, Azure Government Top Secret, GCC High, or another classified environment.
  • Experience migrating an embedded or file-based database to SQL Server, Azure SQL, or another managed relational platform.
  • Experience with Azure SQL, Key Vault, managed identities, private endpoints, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Azure Container Registry, or AKS.
  • Experience using coding agents for repository analysis, implementation planning, multi-file changes, test generation, code review, and application modernization.
  • Experience establishing repository instructions, coding standards, reusable prompts, and validation controls for AI-assisted development.
  • Experience developing with approved AI tools in regulated, disconnected, air-gapped, or restricted environments.
  • Experience with CAC/PIV authentication, DoD PKI, RMF, FIPS requirements, DoD IL5 or classified workloads, and DISA STIGs.
  • Experience with Vitest or Jest, Supertest, Playwright, axe-core, or comparable automated testing tools.
  • Experience with Docker, AKS, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and hardened container images such as DoD Iron Bank images.
  • Experience with C#/.NET, Java, Go, or Python in addition to Node.js.
  • Microsoft certifications related to Azure development, architecture, security, or data.

Benefits

HyerTek offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Flexible work arrangements when permitted by the customer and security environment
  • Professional development and certification support
  • Employee assistance program
  • Life and disability insurance

Clearances & Work Authorizations

This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with the Department of Defense. Candidates must maintain the required clearance and be authorized to work in the United States without employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future. HyerTek will not sponsor applicants for a U.S. work visa for this opportunity.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range is $140,000-$180,000 annually. Final compensation will be based on relevant experience, technical qualifications, certifications, clearance status, and contract requirements.

Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)

HyerTek is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, age, or any other status protected by applicable law.
