Job description

The Director of Business Intelligence serves as the execution leader for the BI function, responsible for delivering the Business Intelligence roadmap and ensuring high-quality, timely analytics solutions across the organization. This role translates strategic direction set by the AVP into actionable execution, overseeing day-to-day operations, team performance, and delivery outcomes.

The Director plays a critical role in enabling data-driven decision-making, ensuring strong data governance practices, and delivering scalable analytics solutions that drive measurable institutional impact.

Position could convert to Full time position with the client after 6 months at $140K annual salary.

Key Responsibilities

Roadmap Execution & Delivery

  • Lead execution of the BI roadmap, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned to quality standards
  • Drive delivery of key initiatives including:
    • Cloud data platform (Azure / Microsoft Fabric)
    • Power BI reporting and dashboards
    • Data governance frameworks
    • Salesforce / Education Cloud analytics
    • Advanced analytics and ML use cases
  • Translate strategic goals into project plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives)
  • Identify risks, manage dependencies, and communicate progress to stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to IT intake, governance, and delivery processes

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop BI team members
  • Build a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative team culture
  • Oversee workload prioritization, capacity planning, and delivery consistency
  • Partner with AVP on performance management and talent development
  • Enable a self-sufficient team capable of high-quality execution

Data Architecture & Engineering Oversight

  • Oversee development of BI solutions across the Microsoft ecosystem:
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Azure Data Lake
    • Microsoft Fabric
    • Power BI
    • SQL Server
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and quality standards
  • Lead onboarding of enterprise data sources (Salesforce, finance, enrollment, etc.)
  • Maintain architecture documentation, runbooks, and monitoring frameworks

Analytics & Reporting Delivery

  • Oversee development of executive dashboards and operational reporting
  • Deliver analytics supporting the full lifecycle (enrollment, academics, finance, retention)
  • Enable self-service BI through governed semantic models
  • Support delivery of AI/ML use cases with measurable business impact

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Act as primary BI contact for business stakeholders
  • Gather requirements and ensure alignment to business outcomes
  • Collaborate with IT teams across applications, infrastructure, and operations
  • Support executive reporting, KPI tracking, and governance discussions
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships through consistent delivery

Strategic & Organizational Contribution

  • Support IT leadership in roadmap planning and strategic initiatives
  • Represent BI in cross-functional programs and institutional projects
  • Stay current on trends in data, analytics, AI/ML, and higher education
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of BI capabilities

  • Strong knowledge of data modeling, semantic layers, and reporting architecture

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in a related field
