This role focuses on building scalable, high-performance systems that power key ad capabilities for both advertisers. You'll lead frontend development efforts, mentor junior engineers, and play a critical role in shaping one of Chewy’s fastest-growing revenue streams.

As an experienced Software Engineer with a background in frontend and full-stack development. Launched in 2022, Chewy's Sponsored Ads platform enables vendors to promote their products on-site and offsite, significantly contributing to Chewy’s revenue growth. The Ads Demand team owns the frontend and backend of the Advertiser portal which enables advertisers create, manage and optimize their ad campaigns. We are based in Boston and Seattle.

  • Design and implement scalable, low-latency services in Typescript, Java, Python, powering core advertising capabilities such as auction processing, targeting, and performance tracking.

  • Develop robust and well-documented RESTful APIs to support campaign management, reporting, and integration with advertiser-facing tools.

  • Build resilient systems with strong observability, leveraging automated testing, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines using infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to build systems that support real-time and asynchronous workflows.

  • Drive technical design reviews, conduct code reviews, and lead initiatives to improve platform reliability, performance, and scalability.

  • Take ownership of project estimation and delivery, partnering with stakeholders to deliver high-impact features that enhance the advertiser and customer experience on the Chewy Ads platform.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5-10 years of experience as a Software Engineer, with a strong focus on backend development using modern languages and frameworks including Typescript, Java, Python, SpringBoot, NextJS and React

  • Proven experience building scalable, highly available systems.

  • Experience integrating AI/ML models working alongside Data Science team.

  • Ninja coding and debugging skills

  • Passion for data-driven development, observability, and metrics.

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Solid understanding of CS fundamentals: object-oriented design, algorithms, and problem-solving

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Bonus:

  • Experience in Ad Tech and/or e-commerce.

  • Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies.

  • Experience with full stack development

  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services, including serverless computing, data processing, and storage solutions.

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
