What we need
At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, we are seeking an accomplished and passionate Senior Full Stack Engineer to fill a unique hybrid role. This is a hands-on developer position for an expert who also possesses a deep passion for software quality and test automation. While you will be a key contributor to our full-stack development efforts, your primary focus will be to own and drive our quality assurance governance and automation strategy. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Development, you will be the team's go-to expert for building quality and automation into our products from the ground up.
This position is eligible for the Flex persona in our Boston, MA office twice a week.
Your Day to Day
  • Lead the vision for quality: Design, own, and implement the end-to-end quality assurance and test automation strategy for our digital applications.
  • Build robust test frameworks: Personally design, code, and maintain scalable and reusable automation frameworks for UI, API, and mobile testing.
  • Be a hands-on developer: Contribute to full-stack application development, including front-end and back-end components, using modern technologies.
  • Champion best practices: Mentor and coach other engineers on writing testable code, effective testing techniques, and leveraging automation tools.
  • Integrate AI into QA: Analyze and leverage AI capabilities to revolutionize the quality process, from intelligent test case generation to advanced defect analysis.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and developers to create seamless, high-quality user experiences.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across the full stack, ensuring the stability and reliability of our applications.

We're Looking for:
  • A seasoned software engineer with a primary passion for test automation and software quality.
  • Deep, hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks for web and mobile applications (e.g., using tools like Cypress, Selenium, Playwright, Appium), and leveraging BrowserStack for automation and cross-browser performance analysis.
  • Extensive experience in Performance Testing, utilizing tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, and Gatling to simulate traffic, identify bottlenecks, and ensure system reliability.
  • Strong full-stack development and testing experience, including hands-on work with Angular, React Native, Android Native, iOS Native, REST APIs (with Apigee), SpringBoot, and event-driven systems like Confluent Kafka.
  • Deep knowledge of Performance Monitoring, Debugging, and Observability, actively using tools like Splunk, Splunk Observability, New Relic, and Log Rocket for root cause analysis.
  • Proven ability to lead and review a comprehensive QA and Performance strategy, identify gaps, and drive improvements across a development team.
  • Experience leveraging AI capabilities to enhance automation processes, generate test data, and improve overall testing efficiency.
  • Expertise with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines (DevSecOps), and seamlessly integrating both functional automated testing and continuous performance testing into the development lifecycle.
  • Experience testing and monitoring in a secure public cloud environment, preferably AWS, including the use of AWS Monitoring tools like CloudWatch and Performance Insights.
  • Experience testing across diverse data and infrastructure layers, including Relational, Object-Oriented, NoSQL, and InMemory databases, as well as Content Management Systems (Drupal) and CDNs (Akamai/F5).
  • The ability to coach, mentor, and influence other engineers to adopt a "quality-first" and "performance-driven" mindset.

What You Bring:
  • Bachelorss degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on technology experience, with a significant focus on both software development and test automation.
  • A proven self-starter with the demonstrated ability to own technical decisions and lead initiatives.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts related to quality and automation to a broad audience.
  • The ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, combined with strong self-motivation and excellent organizational skills.

Salary Range: $126,000.00 - $154,000.00
The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.
This job is also eligible for variable pay.
