What is a full stack AWS developer?

A Full Stack AWS Developer is a software engineer skilled in both front-end and back-end development who specializes in building applications using Amazon Web Services (AWS). They create and maintain the user interface, server-side logic, and underlying infrastructure, leveraging AWS services such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and EC2. These developers ensure applications are scalable, secure, and efficient by integrating cloud-native features with modern development frameworks. Their expertise allows companies to deploy and manage end-to-end solutions in the AWS cloud environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full stack AWS developer?

To thrive as a Full Stack AWS Developer, proficiency in front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript/Node.js, Python, or Java), cloud architecture, and a strong understanding of AWS services is required, often supported by a relevant degree or AWS certification. Familiarity with tools like AWS Lambda, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines is typically expected. Effective problem-solving, teamwork, and clear communication are critical soft skills for collaborating on complex cloud-based projects. These skills and qualifications ensure scalable, secure, and efficient application development that leverages AWS's full capabilities.

How do full stack AWS developers typically collaborate with DevOps teams in a cloud-based project?

Full Stack AWS Developers often work closely with DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployment and maintenance of cloud applications. While developers focus on building scalable front- and back-end features using AWS services, DevOps professionals handle infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring. Collaboration includes regular meetings to align on deployment strategies, resolving environment-specific issues, and incorporating feedback to optimize application performance and reliability. This teamwork is essential for delivering robust, production-ready solutions in a cloud-first environment.

What is the difference between Full Stack Aws Developer vs Cloud Engineer?

You'll collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, architects, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality digital experiences that create measurable business value. This role requires both strong technical expertise and the ability to influence technical direction, lead complex initiatives, and drive engineering best practices. Within Marketing Technology, you'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-visibility websites and digital products while gaining exposure to modern cloud architectures, AI-enabled capabilities, personalization, experimentation, analytics, and large-scale platform modernization efforts. This is an ideal opportunity for a developer who enjoys learning emerging technologies, taking ownership of meaningful work, and helping shape the future of MassMutual's digital ecosystem.
The Team
You'll join a collaborative, globally distributed team of developers based in Springfield, Boston, and India who are passionate about building exceptional digital experiences and supporting one another's success. We foster a culture of ownership, continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and open communication, where team members are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and help drive technical innovation. The team works closely with product owners, UX and design partners, architects, marketing stakeholders, analytics teams, and risk and compliance partners to deliver secure, high-quality digital solutions that create meaningful business and customer impact.
The Impact
1. Design, develop, and maintain modern web applications

2. Lead the delivery of complex technical features and solutions
Own the technical implementation of features from design through deployment, collaborating with product, design, and architecture teams to deliver high-quality solutions that ensure alignment with business goals and technical standards.
3. Ensure application performance, reliability, and quality
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize applications by identifying performance bottlenecks, resolving defects, and implementing observability and monitoring solutions to help maintain a secure, reliable, and seamless experience for potential customers.
4. Champion engineering best practices and continuous delivery
Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD processes to improve software quality and deployment efficiency to help the team deliver features faster, more consistently, and with greater confidence.
5. Mentor and support other developers
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing to team members, help developers solve problems, estimate work, and grow their skills to grow a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
6. Collaborate across business and technology teams
Partner closely with product owners, UX designers, architects, marketing stakeholders, analytics teams, and risk and compliance partners to define solutions that meet customer and business needs to ensure we deliver secure, accessible, and impactful digital experiences that drive measurable value for the organization.
The Minimum Qualifications (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, information systems, or a similar technical field.
  • 5+ years of software engineering/development experience.
  • 4+ years working on modern front-end JavaScript frameworks.
  • 2+ years working in a mature agile environment.
  • 1+ years working with AI technologies like Claude or Copilot.

The Ideal Qualifications (Preferred)
  • Strong understanding of modern web application architecture, including scalability, performance optimization, security, observability, and maintainability.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud-native solutions, including containerized applications, microservices, and distributed systems.
  • Proficiency in modern content management systems.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices such as CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps principles.
  • Experience integrating and optimizing APIs, monitoring platforms, analytics tools, and other third-party services within enterprise applications.

  • Experience evaluating and adopting emerging technologies, frameworks, and development tools to improve team productivity and platform capabilities.
  • Experience working with relational and document-based database systems.
