What is a fulfillment associate?

Fulfillment Associates are employees who work in warehouses or distribution centers to process and prepare customer orders for shipment. Their duties typically include picking items from inventory, packing them securely, and ensuring that orders are accurate before they are shipped out. They may also be responsible for scanning barcodes, tracking inventory, and maintaining a clean work environment. Fulfillment Associates play a key role in ensuring that customers receive their orders quickly and correctly. This position often requires attention to detail, the ability to work on your feet for extended periods, and basic computer skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fulfillment associate?

To thrive as a Fulfillment Associate, you need attention to detail, basic math skills, and physical stamina, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS), barcode scanners, and inventory tracking tools is typically required. Reliability, teamwork, and strong organizational skills help individuals excel in fast-paced environments. These capabilities ensure efficient, accurate order processing and contribute to overall customer satisfaction and operational success.

These periods can be physically demanding, requiring efficient time management and strong attention to detail to ensure orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and on time. To manage these challenges, associates benefit from staying organized, maintaining clear communication with teammates and supervisors, and taking advantage of any available ergonomic resources or scheduled breaks. This is a hands-on position for someone who likes to stay busy, works with a sense of urgency, and takes pride in getting things done correctly. Our Fulfillment Department is responsible for making sure completed customer orders are accurately checked, organized, packed, shipped, received, and moved through our facility efficiently.

We're looking for someone who can move quickly without sacrificing accuracy.

What You'll Do

  • Check completed orders for accuracy before they leave our facility
  • Count, sort, organize, fold, bag, box, and prepare customer orders
  • Pack and prepare orders for UPS, FedEx, freight, local delivery, and customer pickup
  • Create shipping labels and process outgoing shipments
  • Receive incoming shipments and verify quantities and products
  • Organize incoming merchandise and route it to the appropriate department or production area
  • Help maintain accurate inventory and product locations
  • Stage completed orders for shipping, delivery, or customer pickup
  • Keep fulfillment, shipping, receiving, and storage areas clean and organized
  • Help load, unload, and move boxes and merchandise throughout the facility
  • Identify discrepancies, damaged products, missing items, or other potential problems before they become customer issues
  • Communicate clearly with sales, production, purchasing, and other departments when questions or problems arise
  • Jump in where needed to help the team meet deadlines

Who We're Looking For

The right person for this position:

  • Has a strong sense of urgency and naturally works at a good pace
  • Is extremely detail-oriented
  • Takes pride in doing things correctly the first time
  • Can stay organized while handling multiple orders and priorities
  • Notices when something doesn't look right and asks questions
  • Doesn't wait around to be told what to do next
  • Is dependable and shows up ready to work
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Is comfortable in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change
  • Understands that both speed and accuracy matter
  • Is willing to learn new systems and processes
  • Takes ownership of their work from start to finish

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position. You should be comfortable:

  • Being on your feet for much of the workday
  • Regularly walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying
  • Moving boxes and merchandise throughout the facility
  • Safely lifting approximately 40–50 lbs. when needed

Experience

Previous experience in fulfillment, shipping and receiving, inventory, distribution, production, or a similar environment is helpful, but it isn't required.

We're more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
