As a Home Health Speech-Language Pathologist, your key responsibilities will include:
- Delivering home-based speech therapy to patients facing communication, swallowing, or cognitive challenges due to illness or injury
- Collaborating with a home health team, which may consist of an RN, LPN, CNA, HHA, PT, and OT, to focus on the patient’s care plan and established objectives
- Assessing and evaluating patients' abilities to communicate, swallow, and process information
- Conducting patient assessments, documenting progress, and ensuring that patient goals are achieved
- Facilitating mouth, breathing, and swallowing exercises, as well as fluency, articulation, and reading skills
- Providing education to patients and families regarding the care plan, therapy objectives, safety practices, and self-care techniques
Essential qualifications for Home Health Speech-Language Pathologists include:
- A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology and an active SLP license in CA
- At least 1 year of experience in speech therapy, preferably in a home healthcare setting
- Current CPR certification [and any additional certifications]
- Familiarity with state and federal home health regulations
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking abilities, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate demeanor
