Job description

GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging full-time opportunity with advancement and growth potential for a Senior Project Lead - System Planning to work in our Design & Engineering business unit based out of our Marietta, GA office.

The Senior Project Lead will lead project teams in developing recommendations for utility system upgrades to support future load growth. This role involves evaluating and projecting loads, modeling future system conditions, and designing solutions to serve projected demands. Work includes supporting utility clients, particularly those operating systems on military bases, through technical analysis, system planning, and review of third?party designs, as well as participation in contract negotiations and system expansion planning. The position includes on?site inspections of power systems, regular client interaction, and preparation and delivery of technical presentations.

Responsibilities:

  • Track project schedules and resource loading to ensure effective staffing and timely delivery.
  • Assign project tasks to team members and establish methods and workflows for completing work products.
  • Participate in client interactions, including meetings, presentations, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Assist in developing project action plans, including task assignments, milestones, and deadlines.
  • Support adherence to approved project budgets and schedules.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues on distribution system planning and design projects.
  • Perform Time?Current Characteristic (TCC) modeling and assist with programming of electrical distribution equipment such as breakers, fuses, TripSaver II, and reclosers under appropriate supervision.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical distribution system planning and design standards, practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Review completed analysis, planning, and design deliverables for compliance with client, industry, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review planning and design products to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to established standards.
  • Review construction documents for compliance with client contract requirements.
  • Apply working knowledge of RUS construction specifications and bulletins.
  • Manage project teams and provide direction or supervision to assigned staff as appropriate.
  • Support marketing and business development efforts under the direction of supervisors, including participation in trade shows and technical presentations.
  • Apply standard electrical engineering practices, techniques, and calculations to analyze system performance, adjust and correlate data, recognize deviations in results, and follow work through detailed technical processes.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related field; Minimum of (6) six years of relevant experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Professional Engineer Certification preferred.
  • Ability to supervise or lead a small team of professionals and technicians.
  • Hazard identification
  • Flexibility/availability to work extra hours when necessary to meet project requirements.
  • Sag10, load flow, short circuit analysis and relay coordination.
  • Working knowledge in the application and use of distribution analysis and planning using software such as WindMil, and/or CYME.
  • Ability to travel to project sites.
  • Travel requirements will vary from 15% to 20%.
