About the role:

Minneapolis, MN

We are looking for a Distribution Switching Coordinator to support electrical grid operations by managing switching plans for distribution system work. You will create switching requests, coordinates with system control centers, and ensure that it executes all switching activities safely and following established procedures. You will have experience with electric distribution systems, utility operations, and field-based grid work.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with grid operations, outage coordination, and control center teams while gaining valuable exposure to critical utility infrastructure projects. The position offers long-term contract potential with the possibility of future full-time employment.

Position Details:

  • Full-time, onsite position
  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST
  • Business needs or team coverage requirements may make occasional overtime available, but we do not expect it on a regular basis.

This role is ideal for individuals with a understanding of distribution system operations, switching procedures, safety tags, clearances, and grid operations. They are looking to help maintain safe and reliable electric service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and write detailed switching plans for distribution system maintenance, construction, and outage-related work.
  • Prepare and submit switching requests for approval.
  • Coordinate daily with control center personnel, outage coordination teams, and grid operations staff.
  • Schedule approved switching plans and ensure execution.
  • Maintain knowledge of electrical safety practices, safety tags, clearances, and switching procedures.
  • Support safe work execution by verifying compliance with operational and safety requirements.
  • Be the contact for switching-related questions before, during, and after work execution.
  • Review upcoming workload and prioritize switching plans to support operational schedules.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure work is completed safely, and with minimal system impact.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience working with electrical distribution systems.
  • Utility industry experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with:
    • Distribution system operations
    • Switch procedures
    • Safety tags and clearances
    • Grid operations principles
  • Field experience as a Lineman, Troubleman, System Operator, or similar utility operations role.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and engineering principles.
