Job Description
IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for an Operations & Maintenance Technician I - Fuel Tech at our Pacific Ultrapower Chinese Station (PUCS) Power Plant located in Jamestown, CA.
The salary rate range for this role is $30.00 to $37.00 per hour (negotiable based on experience)
Job Summary
Responsible for fuels management, to include rolling stock and materials handling operations. Operates and monitors equipment, rolling stock, conveyor systems, etc., and is capable of identifying out of compliance mechanical, electrical, or other extraordinary conditions as appropriate within assigned equipment and systems.
Conducts day to day operations and maintenance of the plant to include supporting plant operations, mechanical maintenance and preventive maintenance. Is fully proficient in at least one of the disciplines listed above and as such has the ability to support other O&M technicians in their roles. This position reports to the O&M Manager - Maintenance. Under certain circumstances, the reporting requirement may be to other O&M Managers or Plant Manager.
Job Functions
  • Start-up, operate, shutdown and secure assigned equipment or systems under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic level mechanical skills such as adjustments, lubrication and oil changes.
  • Inspect assigned machinery thoroughly for malfunctions and / or potential failures.
  • Maintain logs and records as required to record complete operating conditions for assigned equipment and systems and report any irregularities.
  • Identify hazardous and/or unsafe conditions or work practices, notify supervisor and take action to correct as required.
  • Monitors readings from controls (temperature, pressure, speed, flow, etc.) and follow normal operating procedures to address any abnormal conditions.
  • Assists in routine and complex fuel system maintenance, electrical troubleshooting and repair, maintenance work, as assigned.
  • Assists in the reviewing of operating and maintenance procedures to ensure consistent and safe operation.
  • Conduct or assist in scheduled and forced outage maintenance work.
  • Supervise, coordinate or assist contractors performing work at the facility.
  • Comply with all Facility Environmental, Health and Safety policies and programs.
  • Maintain logs and/or records of problems, repairs, and downtime as required.
  • Participate in committees and task forces as required, for plant operations and improvements.
  • Assist in the implementation and upkeep on the overall preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory tracking system.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.

Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • High School diploma or equivalent level of work experience.
  • Successful completion of applicable Pre-Employment test battery.
  • Successful completion of applicable Pre-Employment drug testing and formal background checks.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the assigned position.
  • Must possess solid level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.

  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.

Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job
  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires working 10 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.
