Fuel Controllers are professionals responsible for monitoring, managing, and reporting on fuel usage, inventory, and procurement within an organization. They ensure that fuel supplies are accurately tracked, costs are controlled, and regulatory requirements are met. Fuel Controllers often work in industries such as aviation, transportation, or energy, where efficient fuel management is critical to operations. Their duties may include reconciling fuel deliveries, analyzing fuel consumption data, and coordinating with suppliers.

What are some common challenges faced by fuel controllers and how can they be managed effectively?

Fuel Controllers often encounter challenges such as managing fluctuating fuel prices, ensuring accurate inventory tracking, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. Effective communication with suppliers and internal teams is crucial to prevent supply disruptions and discrepancies. Staying organized, using reliable fuel management software, and keeping up-to-date with industry regulations can help Fuel Controllers address these challenges efficiently and maintain smooth operations.

Job description

Monjasa is looking for a Controller to join its finance team in Panama. This is an opportunity for a strong accounting professional who enjoys getting into the details, understanding the business behind the numbers, and taking ownership of making sure things are done right.

Working in an international and fast-paced trading environment, you will take on a broad range of accounting and controlling responsibilities, with particular focus on financial accuracy, balance sheet management, inventory, reporting and audit. You will work closely with colleagues across the business and Monjasa's international finance organization, giving you the opportunity to further develop your controlling expertise over time.

The Role

As Controller, you will play an important role in ensuring accurate and reliable financial information while supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of key accounting and controlling activities across the P&L and balance sheet
  • Supporting month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Managing reconciliations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data
  • Working with inventory, costing and related financial controls in a transaction-heavy environment
  • Preparing financial reports and providing analysis to support the business
  • Supporting and coordinating audit activities
  • Contributing to budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes
  • Working hands-on in the ERP system and Excel
  • Reviewing existing processes and helping simplify and improve financial workflows
  • Collaborating with finance colleagues and stakeholders in Panama and across Monjasa's international organization
Your Background

We are looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation who has developed, or is looking to further develop, broader controlling capabilities. You will ideally bring:

  • Solid professional experience within accounting and controlling
  • Strong understanding of the balance sheet, P&L and underlying accounting principles
  • Experience with financial closing, reconciliations and reporting
  • Experience working with inventory and costing, preferably in an environment with a high volume or complexity of transactions
  • Exposure to audits and the ability to work confidently with auditors and other stakeholders
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems
  • A good understanding of business processes and an interest in making them simpler and more efficient
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish

A background in commodities, logistics, trading or another inventory-intensive business would be beneficial, as would experience from a Big Four accounting firm, although neither is a requirement. Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Navision or derivatives would also be a plus.

Who You Are
  • You are structured, detail-oriented and comfortable taking ownership. You care about getting the numbers right, but you are also curious about what sits behind them and how finance can support the wider business.
  • You bring a positive and proactive mindset and work well with different personalities and stakeholders. You are reliable, transparent and comfortable being hands-on, whether that means working through the details in Excel, resolving an accounting issue or collaborating with colleagues to improve a process.
  • You enjoy being part of a team and want to contribute to a finance environment built around collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
