Job description

Our large nationwide telecommunications client is seeking a Senior Project Manager for their FTTH projects in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This FTTH project will include both aerial and underground construction work. This project will begin quickly requiring the Project Manager to be onsite in Michigan and ultimately complete the project at the end of 2026.
Senior Project Manager FTTH Construction (Upper Peninsula, Michigan)Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager (Sr. PM) to lead large-scale Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction projects throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This role is responsible for the successful execution of complex Outside Plant (OSP) fiber construction programs including both aerial and underground deployments.

The Sr. PM will provide onsite leadership and oversight for all phases of project delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with client and regulatory requirements. This position requires a strong background in OSP construction management, field operations, contractor coordination, and client engagement.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with deep FTTH deployment experience who thrives in fast-paced construction environments and is comfortable being present in the field throughout the duration of the project.


Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
  • Lead end-to-end execution of FTTH construction projects including aerial and underground fiber deployments.
  • Manage all phases of construction including planning, mobilization, construction, restoration, closeout, and turnover.
  • Provide onsite project leadership and maintain an active field presence throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure project objectives, milestones, and deliverables are achieved safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Drive accountability across internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
Planning, Scheduling & Budget Management
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively identify risks, delays, and cost impacts.
  • Track project progress against timelines and financial targets.
  • Lead project status meetings and provide regular reporting to executive leadership and clients.
  • Manage change orders, scope modifications, and budget adjustments.
Construction & OSP Oversight
  • Oversee aerial and underground OSP construction activities including:
    • Fiber placement
    • Directional boring
    • Trenching
    • Pole line construction
    • Strand and lash operations
    • Splicing coordination
    • Restoration activities
  • Ensure construction quality meets engineering standards, client specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, permitting agencies, and inspectors as needed.
  • Verify adherence to OSHA safety standards and company safety policies.
Vendor & Contractor Management
  • Manage subcontractors, construction vendors, and field crews to ensure productivity and quality expectations are met.
  • Conduct field audits, progress reviews, and quality inspections.
  • Evaluate contractor performance and enforce contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment allocation, and workforce planning.
Client Communication & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for client communications and project updates.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, local agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Facilitate issue resolution and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Present project updates, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership and clients.

Required Qualifications
  • 10-15 years of telecommunications construction project management experience.
  • 10+ years managing FTTH or OSP fiber construction projects.
  • Strong experience overseeing both aerial and underground fiber construction.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale broadband or fiber deployment programs.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of OSP construction practices, permitting, utility coordination, and restoration.
  • Experience managing multiple vendors and field teams simultaneously.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
