What is an FTTH Project Manager?

FTTH (Fiber to the Home) Project Managers are professionals who oversee the planning, execution, and completion of fiber optic network installations that deliver high-speed internet directly to residential homes. Their responsibilities include coordinating teams, managing budgets and timelines, ensuring compliance with technical standards, and communicating with stakeholders. They play a crucial role in expanding broadband infrastructure and ensuring efficient, high-quality network deployment.

What are the main challenges an FTTH Project Manager may face during fiber deployment projects?

FTTH Project Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating multiple contractors, managing tight installation timelines, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. Unexpected obstacles like permit delays, adverse weather, and supply chain issues can impact project schedules. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as the role requires close collaboration with engineers, field teams, vendors, and local authorities to keep the project on track and within budget.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an FTTH Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an FTTH Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, knowledge of fiber optic technology, and typically a degree in engineering or telecommunications. Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD, project management software (e.g., MS Project), and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are highly valuable. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help manage teams and coordinate with stakeholders. These skills ensure efficient project delivery, high-quality network deployment, and client satisfaction in a competitive telecommunications environment.

Summary

As Director/VP of Fiber Construction, you will serve as the senior operational and commercial leader for Maverick's fiber and OSP construction division. You will own project delivery, P&L performance, client relationships, subcontractor relationships, and team development across active and pipeline programs — including FTTH deployments, OSP buildouts, and make-ready construction. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with direct exposure to executive leadership and a seat at the table as we execute our strategic growth plan. The role is based out of our Boston HQ with regular travel to active job sites, client offices, and field crews across our project footprint. Maverick isn't a bureaucracy — it's a growth-stage platform with the infrastructure of a mature company. If you're a builder who wants to run something — not just manage it — this is the role.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end delivery of FTTH/FTTX and OSP construction programs, from mobilization through closeout
  • Division P&L — budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and margin performance
  • Subcontractor selection, contract management, performance oversight, and compliance
  • Field operations leadership across crews, equipment, and safety protocols
  • Client relationships and account growth for active fiber programs
  • Hiring, developing, and retaining project managers, superintendents, and field supervisors
  • Help lead strategic business development efforts including coordination with Engineering, Estimating, and Business Development on pursuits and pre-construction planning
  • Reporting to the Operating Partner on division performance, risks, and growth opportunities
  • All other tasks as assigned by management.

Skills & Abilities

  • Must be detail oriented and proficient with paperwork.
  • Highly flexible in daily duties and level of responsibility.
  • Excellent communication skills — you're comfortable presenting to clients and executive leadership alike

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in OSP / fiber construction, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role managing multi-project programs
  • Deep working knowledge of FTTH/FTTX construction — aerial, underground, and MDU environments
  • Proven track record of owning P&L and driving margin performance on construction programs
  • Strong subcontractor management experience, including qualification, contracting, and performance management
  • Familiarity with permitting, utility coordination, and municipal processes across fiber deployments
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, OSP design packages, and fiber splicing documentation
  • Experience managing field crews and field supervisors across geographically dispersed projects
  • Proficiency with project management and field reporting tools; ERP experience a plus
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to job sites, client meetings, and field operations across Maverick's national project footprint.
