Fso Engineer information

What is an FSO engineer?

An FSO (Field Service Operations) Engineer is a professional responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment or systems at client sites. They often work in industries such as telecommunications, energy, or IT, providing technical support and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance of products and services. FSO Engineers frequently travel to customer locations, respond to service requests, and provide on-site training or guidance. Their role is crucial for minimizing downtime and ensuring customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an FSO engineer?

To thrive as an FSO (Field Service Operations) Engineer, you need a solid background in electronics, network engineering, and troubleshooting, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree or technical certification. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, network management systems, and industry-specific certifications like CCNA or CompTIA Network+ is often required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for addressing on-site issues and working with diverse clients. These skills ensure that technical problems are resolved efficiently, minimizing downtime and maintaining high customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by FSO engineers when deploying Free Space Optics systems in urban environments?

FSO Engineers often encounter challenges such as signal interference from weather conditions (like fog, rain, or smog), line-of-sight obstructions from buildings, and alignment issues during installation in densely populated urban areas. Addressing these requires careful site surveys, precision in device alignment, and sometimes the integration of redundancy or backup links. Collaboration with building management and other engineering teams is also crucial to ensure successful deployment and ongoing maintenance of the FSO systems.

What is the difference between Fso Engineer vs Network Engineer?

Fso Engineers and Network Engineers often share certifications and work in related industries. However, Fso Engineers focus more on field operations and infrastructure deployment, while Network Engineers primarily handle network design, configuration, and troubleshooting in office or data center environments. Both roles are essential in telecommunications and IT sectors, but their daily tasks and work settings differ.

Facility Security Officer (FSO)

Location: Alexandria, VA

Edgesource Corporation is a 29-year-old, quality-driven small business delivering mission-ready national security solutions to the intelligence, defense, diplomatic, and homeland communities. Powered by our AdvantEDGE™ Framework, Edgesource embeds directly in customer missions across Data Engineering, Cloud Engineering, AI/ML, and UAS/C-UAS, and is a recognized assessor for the Defense Innovation Unit's Blue UAS program. Our growing team of cleared professionals operates from an accredited SCIF and is backed by CMMI and ISO 9001/27001 certifications.

Position Summary

The Facility Security Officer (FSO) is responsible for managing and administering the company's Industrial Security Program in accordance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM), 32 CFR Part 117, DCSA guidance, and applicable federal agency security requirements. The FSO serves as the company's primary security official and trusted advisor for all personnel, facility, and classified information security matters.

This position ensures compliance with all government and company security policies while supporting classified contracts, maintaining Facility Clearance (FCL), managing personnel security clearances (PCLs), overseeing classified holdings, and serving as the primary liaison with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) and customer security offices.

The FSO works closely with Human Resources, Contracts, Service Delivery, Information Technology, and executive leadership to protect company personnel, information, facilities, and assets while maintaining compliance with contractual and regulatory security requirements.

This is a newly created, dedicated FSO position established to support Edgesource's continued growth. Industrial security has historically been managed by the Chief Operating Officer alongside broader operational duties; as the company expands its contract base and pursues new opportunities, this role is being stood up to give the security function full-time, dedicated ownership. The FSO will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, with the opportunity to build and lead a security team as our cleared workforce and contract portfolio continue to grow.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as the company's appointed Facility Security Officer (FSO) and primary liaison with DCSA, customer security offices, and other government agencies.

  • Administer the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) in accordance with NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117), DCSA guidance, and customer security requirements.

  • Maintain the company's Facility Clearance (FCL), develop security policies and procedures, and ensure ongoing compliance with federal regulations.

  • Manage all personnel security functions, including security clearances, investigations, reinvestigations, continuous vetting, onboarding, fingerprinting, access authorizations, and clearance records using DISS, NBIS, ACAVS, and other government systems.

  • Oversee classified information security, including document control, classified holdings, inventories, storage, destruction, shipments, and annual self-inspections.

  • Prepare for and support DCSA Security Reviews, government inspections, audits, and corrective action plans.

  • Administer the company's Security Education, Insider Threat, and security awareness programs, including employee briefings, annual training, and required reporting.

  • Investigate security incidents, maintain required documentation, and submit reports to government agencies as required.

  • Manage facility access, visit requests, badges, visitor control, foreign travel reporting, and physical security requirements.

  • Partner with Human Resources, Contracts, Business Development, Program Management, and IT to support personnel security, classified contracts, proposals, and organizational compliance initiatives, including CMMC.

  • Support the company's continued growth by developing scalable security processes and helping expand the corporate security program.

  • Perform other security and compliance duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 10+ years of industrial security experience supporting cleared federal contractors.

  • Experience serving as an FSO or AFSO with extensive knowledge of NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117), DCSA requirements, and industrial security regulations.

  • Experience managing Facility Clearances (FCL), personnel security clearances, and DCSA inspections.

  • Proficiency with DISS, NBIS, ACAVS, Scattered Castles and other government security systems.

  • Strong knowledge of classified information safeguarding, document control, and security compliance.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.

  • Must reside in the Greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with regular onsite support at the Edgesource corporate office, customer facilities, and other government locations as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industrial Security Professional (ISP®) and/or Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC).

  • Experience as an Insider Threat Program Senior Official (ITPSO).

  • Knowledge of ICD 705, CMMC, and NIST SP 800-171.

  • Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, DHS, or other federal agencies.

  • Experience supporting classified proposals and contract transitions.

Clearance Requirements

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance (SCI eligibility preferred).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required customer access.
