Produce Lead Clerk-Fruit/Vegetable Cutter


If you love working with fresh fruit and creating colorful, eye-catching products, you’ll enjoy joining our Produce Department as a Produce Lead Clerk–Fruit Cutter! In this hands-on leadership role, you will help oversee daily fruit-cutting operations while preparing fresh, high-quality products for our fresh foods and Grab & Go displays.


The Produce Lead Clerk–Fruit Cutter is responsible for coordinating daily production, preparing and packaging fresh fruit, maintaining attractive displays, and ensuring the department meets company standards for freshness, quality, food safety, and sanitation. This position also provides guidance and training to team members and helps keep daily operations running smoothly and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the daily activities of the fruit-cutting team.
  • Review production needs and prioritize daily assignments to maintain fully stocked displays.
  • Wash, peel, slice, dice, and prepare a variety of fresh fruits.
  • Prepare fruit cups, platters, bowls, and other Grab & Go products according to company recipes and presentation standards.
  • Package, weigh, price, and label products accurately.
  • Train and guide team members on proper preparation techniques, portioning, packaging, sanitation, and safe equipment use.
  • Inspect fruit for freshness, ripeness, and overall quality, removing damaged or spoiled products.
  • Monitor product levels and replenish displays throughout the shift.
  • Rotate products using the first-in, first-out (FIFO) method to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering needs, and communicating low-stock items to department management.
  • Monitor product yields, portion sizes, and waste to help support department goals.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary workstations, utensils, cutting boards, knives, and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all company food safety, health, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines.
  • Provide friendly and helpful service when assisting customers.
  • Communicate production, staffing, or quality concerns to department management.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Previous produce, fruit-cutting, food preparation, or related grocery experience required.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to safely and confidently use knives and food-preparation equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, product rotation, and freshness standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to quality and presentation.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and support a team in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment and Schedule
  • Work is performed in refrigerated food-preparation and produce areas.
  • The position requires standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive hand movements throughout the shift.
  • A flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
