OVERVIEW:
The Global Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable U.S. and international import and export regulations governing the movement of products and materials across global markets. This role serves as a subject matter expert in international trade compliance, providing guidance on U.S. Customs regulations, INCOTERMS, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications, Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN), and country of origin requirements.
This position partners cross-functionally with Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics, and Operations, as well as external partners such as customs brokers and freight forwarders, to ensure global trade activities are executed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. The role plays a key part in risk mitigation, audit readiness, process improvement, and the continuous advancement of the company's global trade compliance program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. import/export regulations, including EAR, U.S. Customs, OFAC, sanctions, embargoes, and applicable international trade laws
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for global trade compliance matters across the organization
  • Assign and maintain HTS classifications, ECCN determinations, and country of origin (CoO), collaborating with Engineering, Purchasing, and other stakeholders
  • Provide guidance on INCOTERMS, international shipping requirements, and global trade best practices
  • Review international shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin
  • Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders to support compliant and timely shipment execution
  • Support customs clearance activities and proactively resolve import/export issues or delays
  • Conduct denied party and restricted party screenings in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Support Free Trade Agreement (FTA) programs, including USMCA, and maintain required documentation
  • Identify and support duty drawback opportunities and tariff mitigation strategies, including temporary import bonds (TIB)
  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate regulatory changes impacting global trade compliance
  • Conduct trade compliance risk assessments and support internal investigations related to potential compliance concerns
  • Maintain accurate import/export compliance records and support internal and external audits
  • Identify and drive process improvement opportunities, including automation and system enhancements
  • Develop and maintain procedures, work instructions, and compliance documentation
  • Support the development and delivery of trade compliance training to enhance organization-wide awareness and adherence
  • Utilize data and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to analyze trade activity, identify trends, and support informed decision-making
  • Develop, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to trade compliance (e.g., clearance times, audit results, compliance metrics)
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure compliant execution of global trade activities and alignment with operational priorities
  • Support the Export Compliance Officer in administering the company's global trade compliance program, including policy implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
  • Professional certifications such as Licensed Customs Broker, Certified Export Specialist (CES), or similar are a plus
