What is a frontend React developer?

Frontend React developers are software engineers who specialize in building the user interface and interactive features of web applications using React.js, a popular JavaScript library. They focus on creating responsive, efficient, and visually appealing web pages that users interact with directly. Their responsibilities typically include designing UI components, managing application state, optimizing performance, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Frontend React developers often collaborate with designers and backend developers to deliver seamless user experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frontend React developer?

To thrive as a Frontend React Developer, you need a solid understanding of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern React concepts, often supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools like Git, RESTful APIs, npm, and frameworks like Redux, as well as experience with popular development environments, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers collaborate within teams and deliver user-friendly applications. These skills ensure robust, maintainable, and scalable interfaces that provide an excellent user experience.

Job description

Location: Alpharetta, GA (hybrid)
Reports to: Team Lead UC Development
Travel: No travel required
About Stonebranch:
Stonebranch builds dynamic IT automation solutions that transform business IT environments from simple IT task automation into sophisticated, real-time business service automation, helping organizations achieve the highest possible Return on Automation. No matter the degree of automation, Stonebranch software is simple, modern, and secure. Using its universal automation platform, enterprises can seamlessly orchestrate workloads and data across technology ecosystems and silos. Headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, USA with points of contact and support throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia, Stonebranch serves some of the world's largest financial, manufacturing, healthcare, travel, transportation, energy, and technology institutions.
Your Part in this Growth Story:
Stonebranch is searching for a React Technical Lead to own the front-end architecture behind our automation platform - someone who leads through technical excellence, drives projects forward, and takes accountability for outcomes without waiting to be told what to build next. As enterprises increasingly demand intuitive, data-rich interfaces to orchestrate complex workloads, the experiences you architect will shape how some of the world's largest organizations interact with their automation.
This is a role built for where engineering is heading. You'll work at the forefront of AI-assisted development, using tools like Claude to accelerate delivery - directing and reviewing AI-generated code, exercising the senior judgment to catch what the AI gets wrong, and reserving your deepest focus for architecture, standards, and the hard technical decisions. We're looking for someone energized by this shift: a technical leader who sees AI as a force multiplier for great engineering, not a replacement for it.
As the technical leader for our front-end area, you'll set the standards other developers build against, architect scalable and reusable components for complex web applications, design the layouts, components, and interfaces that shape how customers experience the product - including data visualizations where they bring complex information to life - and mentor the engineers around you. Strong, application-oriented React expertise is essential - you've built real, production-grade applications, not just websites - but what sets you apart is ownership: the drive to make this area yours and move it forward.
This is a hybrid position - 3 days per week onsite, 2 days per week remote - and is based out of our global Headquarters in Alpharetta, GA. This role reports directly to the Team Lead for UC Development.
Your Impact on the Organization:
Technical Leadership & Architecture
  • Own the front-end architecture for complex web applications, making the technical decisions that set direction for the area
  • Establish and evolve the engineering standards, patterns, and best practices that other developers build against
  • Architect and build reusable components and front-end libraries for scalability and long-term reuse
  • Translate business requirements into sound technical solutions, balancing speed, quality, and maintainability

AI-Assisted Development & Code Quality
  • Lead an AI-assisted development workflow, using tools like Claude to accelerate delivery while owning the quality of what ships
  • Direct and review AI-generated code, applying the senior judgment to catch errors, enforce standards, and ensure architectural integrity
  • Review the team's work and provide technical guidance that raises the quality bar across the front-end codebase

Feature Design & Performance
  • Design and build new layouts, components, and user interfaces that improve how customers interact with the product
  • Create clear, effective ways to present complex information, including data visualizations where they add value
  • Optimize rendering performance and API usage to keep applications fast and responsive at scale
  • Ensure quality and reliability across browsers and devices through sound testing and troubleshooting practices

Collaboration & Mentorship
  • Mentor developers and grow the technical capability of the team through code review, pairing, and guidance
  • Partner with other engineering teams to align on and implement front-end solutions across the platform
  • Communicate technical direction and trade-offs clearly to both technical and business stakeholders

What You Will Bring to the Team:
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field
  • 7+ years of professional experience in software development
  • 5+ years of advanced React development experience building real, production-grade applications (not websites)
  • Proven track record of leading technical initiatives, owning a technical area, and mentoring other developers

Technical Skills
  • Expert-level command of the React ecosystem including advanced patterns, component architecture, and performance optimization
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML and CSS
  • Demonstrated ability to architect scalable front-end systems and establish development standards and best practices
  • Strong UI/UX sensibility, with experience designing and building user-facing features such as layouts, components, and data visualizations
  • Solid command of testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and production deployment practices
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT); hands-on experience using them to ship production software is a strong plus
  • This is a hands-on technical role: day-to-day development is expected, with AI-assisted coding (e.g., Claude) as a core part of the workflow

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Strong architectural thinking, with the judgment to make sound technical decisions and the accountability to own the outcomes
  • A driver's mindset - self-directed, proactive, and able to move an area forward without handholding
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising the quality bar through code review and technical guidance
  • Ability to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions
  • Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical direction and trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences
  • A collaborative team player, comfortable working in a fast-paced, international environment
  • Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is required
