What is a frontend developer?

Frontend Developers are professionals who design and build the user-facing parts of websites and web applications. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and visually appealing interfaces that users interact with directly in their browsers. Frontend Developers work closely with designers and backend developers to ensure a seamless and responsive user experience across different devices and platforms. Their role often includes optimizing website performance, ensuring accessibility, and maintaining code quality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a frontend developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Frontend Developer, you need a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), responsive design tools, and web performance optimization techniques is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities help you build intuitive, user-friendly interfaces and collaborate effectively with design and backend teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality, interactive web applications that meet user and business needs.

How do frontend developers collaborate with designers and backend teams during a project?

Frontend Developers regularly work closely with UX/UI designers to ensure that visual elements are accurately translated into interactive web pages and applications. They also coordinate with backend developers to integrate APIs and manage data flow between the server and the user interface. Regular meetings, code reviews, and collaborative tools like version control systems help streamline communication and maintain consistency across the project. This teamwork is essential to deliver a cohesive and high-performing end product.

LOCATION : Lehi, UT — Hybrid (Monday–Wednesday in office) EMPLOYMENT TYPE : Full-time POSITION OVERVIEW:

Opiniion is a SaaS, AI-first company reshaping how businesses understand and act on customer feedback. We are looking for a Staff Engineer, Frontend to lead through hands-on technical execution while raising the bar for frontend architecture, performance, and product quality across the platform. This role is built for someone who can ship polished, high-trust user experiences, coach other engineers through strong technical judgment, and help establish durable frontend patterns as Opiniion scales.

You will partner closely with the Staff Software Architect and cross-functional engineering teammates to guide frontend standards across both the current product and the next-generation platform now being built in parallel. Success in this role means balancing delivery with long-term maintainability: making thoughtful architecture decisions, improving developer ergonomics, and ensuring the frontend experience stays fast, accessible, and resilient as new AI-powered product capabilities are introduced.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own day-to-day frontend architecture governance within the broader technical direction set by the Staff Software Architect, escalating cross-cutting decisions when needed.
  • Write high-quality, production-grade frontend code as an individual contributor, not only as a reviewer or advisor.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, design feedback, and practical technical guidance that improves the overall engineering bar.
  • Define and reinforce frontend standards for component architecture, state management, performance, testing, accessibility, and maintainability.
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering teammates to turn requirements into polished user experiences that are intuitive, reliable, and scalable.
  • Balance ongoing contributions to the current platform with frontend development for the next-generation platform, helping teams decide what to carry forward versus rebuild.
  • Design and ship AI-capable frontend experiences, including chat interfaces, streaming responses, intelligent workflows, or other agentic interaction patterns where appropriate.
  • Identify and resolve performance, accessibility, and reliability issues across the frontend stack, with a strong bias toward measurable improvements.
  • Contribute to design reviews and technical planning so frontend decisions stay aligned with broader platform architecture and business goals.
  • Help shape best practices for deployment, observability, and release quality as they relate to frontend systems.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve speed and quality while applying sound engineering judgment and maintaining a high bar for user experience.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Significant professional experience in frontend software development, typically 10+ years, with meaningful time operating at a staff, principal, or similarly senior technical level.
  • Deep expertise in modern frontend development using React and TypeScript in production SaaS applications.
  • Strong command of component architecture, design systems, frontend state management, and maintainable UI patterns at scale.
  • Proven experience shipping performant, accessible, production-grade web experiences and improving frontend quality across a team or platform.
  • Experience integrating backend APIs and handling asynchronous, real-time, or streaming data in the user interface.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without relying on formal people-management authority.
  • Strong understanding of testing strategies for frontend systems, including unit, integration, and end-to-end approaches.
  • Experience introducing or supporting AI/LLM-powered product experiences in production, not only prototypes.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain tradeoffs and align cross-functional partners.
  • A pragmatic, ownership-oriented approach and a strong bias for action in a fast-moving environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with design system ownership or large-scale component-library stewardship.
  • Experience with performance tuning, frontend observability, and release reliability in complex SaaS products.
  • Experience supporting multi-country compliance requirements such as accessibility, privacy, or regional data expectations that affect frontend delivery.
  • Background in high-growth SaaS environments, product rebuilds, or post-acquisition platform consolidation.
  • Experience with GraphQL, modern build tooling, and advanced frontend patterns for streaming or AI-assisted interfaces.
OPINIION’S CULTURE:

At Opiniion, we take our work seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously! We work hard together, and we have a lot of fun doing it. We are a team that believes in real autonomy: you own your area, solve problems, and move fast enough to actually see the change you make. The people here are invested in each other just as much as they’re invested in the work, and that combination is what makes this place different. We believe in collaboration, innovation, and building a team that truly cares—about our clients, their residents, and each other.

BENEFITS SNAPSHOT :
  • Comprehensive healthcare plans, encompassing medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with group life coverage. Opiniion covers 40-90% of the premium cost for employees and all dependents.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a 100% corporate match on the first 1% and 50% match on the next 5%.
  • Pre-tax Health Savings Accounts (HSA).
  • Paid Parental Leave for all new parents (including adoption or foster care).
  • 10 Paid Holidays annually.
  • Monthly Wellness Reimbursement benefit.
  • Note that the above benefits are available only to full-time employees of Opiniion

We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on actual or perceived race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, age, sex or gender (including pregnancy, childbirth and pregnancy-related conditions), gender identity or expression (including transgender status), sexual orientation, marital status, military service and veteran status, physical or mental disability, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws and ordinances.
