Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), browser developer tools, and build tools such as Webpack is typically required. Front end developers collaborate closely with designers and back end developers to bring web projects to life. Their role also involves optimizing applications for speed, accessibility, and responsiveness across various devices and browsers.

What is front end software development?

Front end software development involves coding the user-facing aspects of a website or software program. Your responsibilities include using a variety of tools or IDEs (integrated development environments) to write or edit CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), and Javascript code. As a front end software developer, your job is to use your skills to address the look, feel, and overall user experience of an application, more so than the speed, efficiency, or resilience of the backend of the application.

What are some common challenges front end software developers face when working on large-scale web applications?

Front End Software Developers often encounter challenges related to performance optimization, maintaining consistent UI/UX across various browsers and devices, and ensuring scalability as applications grow. Collaborating with backend teams to integrate APIs smoothly and keeping up with rapidly evolving frameworks and tools are also typical hurdles. Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for strong developers to join our small but growing team. As one of the earliest engineering hires, you'll take on a lead role with vast ownership across the frontend. We are tackling challenging and important problems, and need engineers who can operate well in ambiguity and come to a great solution.
As an engineering team, we believe strongly that empathy improves our solutions. Seeing people use the product is a priority and the way we get to the right answer. Engineers will have the opportunity to work closely with our team onsite to understand the variety of use-cases that our company serves. We value strong ownership on our team, while also being highly collaborative and always seeking input and feedback.
As part of being a frontend engineer, you will work closely with product designers and implementation teammates to work on intuitive interfaces for our users. The challenges on the frontend are beyond the basic; we are dealing with rendering thousands of points on maps, organizing data on a network graph, implementing intricate and interactive data visualizations, and more. Our frontend stack leverages React, Redux, D3, Mapbox, and Blueprint.js.
About You
  • Significant experience working with cross functional software development teams
  • Comfortable navigating large code bases
  • Shipped and iterated on major software components in your professional career, the open source community, and/or side projects
  • Write robust, well tested, and well designed code that frequently gets deployed to users

What We Look For
  • Strong understanding of React and patterns associated with it
  • Strong best practices in modern software development such as deployments, CI/CD, data management, and distributed systems
  • Excellent technical vision with the ability to synthesize product requests into strong and reliable software components
  • Passion for crafting and shipping software solutions that delight users
  • Driven and self-disciplined with the ability to own projects from start to finish

Our company is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We celebrate diversity and are a proud equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
