What is a front end developer React?

Front End Developer React professionals are software engineers who specialize in building the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of web applications using the React JavaScript library. They focus on creating visually appealing, responsive, and interactive websites by working closely with designers and back-end developers. Their responsibilities include translating design mockups into functional code, optimizing web applications for speed and scalability, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. React developers use modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, and often work with tools like Redux, TypeScript, and various testing libraries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a front end developer React, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Front End Developer React, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a solid understanding of React.js fundamentals, often supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools like Redux, Webpack, version control systems (such as Git), and component libraries is typically required. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with teams and delivering user-friendly interfaces. These skills and qualities are crucial for building efficient, scalable, and maintainable web applications that meet user and business needs.

What are some common challenges faced by front end developers working with React, and how can they be addressed?

Front End Developers specializing in React often encounter challenges such as managing complex state across large applications, ensuring optimal performance, and keeping up with frequent library updates. Effective use of state management tools like Redux or Context API can help address state complexity, while techniques such as code-splitting and memoization improve performance. Staying engaged with the React community and regularly reviewing official documentation can help developers stay updated with best practices and new features.

Job description

Senior Full Stack Developer (React / Next.js)

Department: Software Development

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Imerza

Description

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer to help build and scale our digital twin platform: a multi-tenant system that blends CMS-driven content, configurable layouts, large media assets, and high-performance frontends, deployed both in the AWS cloud and on-prem at customer sites.

This is a hands-on, product-minded engineering role. You will own features end to end, from schema and API design through frontend implementation and deployment, and you will help shape technical direction as the platform grows.

You will work in a modern but opinionated TypeScript monorepo and navigate real-world complexity: very large media assets, mixed cloud and on-prem deployment targets, multi-tenant content, and UIs that span kiosks, tablets, desktops, and large-format LED displays.

Note: this role partners closely with our 3D, rendering, and platform teams. Deep 3D, XR, or IoT experience is a plus, not a requirement; we are hiring dedicated specialists for those areas, so your focus here is the web and platform stack.

At Imerza, we are pioneers in architectural visualization software, specializing in digital twins and real-estate marketing. We turn architectural concepts into breathtaking, immersive experiences that run everywhere from a sales-center video wall to a tablet in a buyer's hands.

Key Responsibilities

Frontend Development (primary focus)

  • Build and maintain complex, data-driven UIs in React and Next.js, including CMS-driven layouts and dynamic content blocks that scale across products, tenants, and deployments.

  • Optimize frontend performance for media-heavy and data-heavy applications.

  • Collaborate with UX and UI designers to translate designs into fast, intuitive, accessible experiences.

  • Ensure responsiveness and correct behavior across kiosk, large-format LED, desktop, and tablet form factors.

Backend and Full Stack Development

  • Design and extend Payload CMS collections, access control, and content models, plus the REST and GraphQL APIs that support content and configuration.

  • Collaborate on data modeling, schema design, system architecture, and integration patterns.

  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested TypeScript with an eye toward long-term platform evolution.

  • Design or extend infrastructure as code (AWS CDK) to build immutable infrastructure deployable both in AWS and as constrained on-prem installations.

Collaboration and Technical Leadership

  • Work within an Nx-based, pnpm-managed monorepo, collaborating across frontend, backend, and shared libraries.

  • Participate in architectural discussions around data flow, caching, multi-tenancy, environment separation, and cloud-versus-on-prem deployment.

  • Review code, mentor other engineers, and raise the bar on code quality and system design.

  • Help improve developer tooling, workflows, and CI/CD over time.

Our Stack Core (what you will work in daily)

  • Frontend: React 19, Next.js 15 (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, nuqs for URL state.

  • CMS and Backend: Payload CMS 3 (headless, Next-native) with a multi-tenant architecture, role-based access control, and 25+ content collections. REST, GraphQL, and Local APIs.

  • Data: PostgreSQL with Drizzle ORM and Drizzle Kit migrations; S3 plus CloudFront for media delivery.

  • Infrastructure: AWS CDK (infrastructure as code) across dev, stg, uat, and prd; Docker-based on-prem deployments; GitHub Actions CI/CD.

  • Tooling: Nx-managed monorepo with pnpm workspaces shared across frontend, backend, and internal libraries.

Adjacent areas (specialists own these; nice to be curious about)

  • A Three.js, WebGL, and WebXR rendering engine, plus Unreal Engine 5 compositing for photoreal output.

  • MQTT-driven real-time digital-twin data and multi-display casting.

  • Node-RED on-prem device and controller integration.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 3 to 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent on real-time 3D or graphics.

  • Deep proficiency with Three.js (React Three Fiber experience is a strong plus).

  • Solid WebGL and GLSL shader experience.

  • Strong TypeScript or JavaScript skills.

  • Experience with 3D asset formats and pipelines (glTF and GLB, textures, compression).

  • A strong grasp of 3D math (vectors, matrices, quaternions, transforms, and cameras).

  • Experience profiling and optimizing rendering performance and memory usage.

  • A strong eye for visual quality, lighting, and detail.

Nice to Have

  • Gaussian splatting or radiance fields (Spark, Luma, 3D Gaussian Splatting, or NeRF-adjacent work).

  • Experience with KTX2 and Basis, Draco, or meshopt compression.

  • PBR materials, baked lighting and lightmap workflows, and HDR or image-based lighting.

  • WebXR, VR, or AR (@react-three/xr or similar).

  • Familiarity with DCC tools (Blender, 3ds Max, Maya) and capture or photogrammetry pipelines (RealityCapture, Postshot, and similar).

  • Experience with Unreal Engine or another real-time engine.

  • Experience with React, Next.js, or a monorepo (Nx, Turborepo).

  • Architecture, AEC, BIM, or spatial-data background.

  • Experience with PlayCanvas

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work on cutting-edge digital twin and immersive visualization technology.

  • A collaborative, product-driven engineering culture.

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.

  • A flexible work environment with real opportunities for growth.
