They combine skills in web design and front-end development, using tools like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and design software to build user-friendly interfaces. Their role bridges the gap between design and technology, ensuring websites not only look appealing but also function smoothly for users. They often collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, back-end developers, and other team members to deliver seamless digital experiences.

What is the difference between Front End Developer Designer vs UI Designer?

UI Designers primarily focus on creating visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces without coding. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers target the right skills and roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a front end developer designer?

To thrive as a Front End Developer Designer, you need expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a strong understanding of UI/UX principles, often supported by a degree in computer science, web design, or related fields. Familiarity with front-end frameworks (like React or Vue), design tools (such as Figma or Adobe XD), and version control systems (like Git) is typically expected. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with teams and translate user needs into engaging interfaces. These skills ensure the delivery of visually appealing, user-friendly, and responsive web experiences that meet both business and user requirements.

Is front end developer designer still in demand?

Front end developer designers are in high demand due to the ongoing growth of web and mobile applications, with skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular being particularly valuable. The role remains essential for creating user interfaces and improving user experience in various industries, and demand is expected to continue as digital presence expands.

How do front end developer designers typically collaborate with UX/UI teams and back-end developers?

Front End Developer Designers often serve as a bridge between creative design and technical implementation. They collaborate closely with UX/UI teams to translate wireframes, mockups, and user flows into interactive, visually consistent web interfaces. At the same time, they work with back-end developers to ensure seamless integration of APIs and data, addressing any technical constraints or challenges. Regular communication and participation in agile sprints are common, helping to align design vision with functional requirements and deliver a cohesive user experience.

Job description

E-Commerce Backend Software Developer
Rooms To Go is looking for a backend software developer to help build and scale our eCommerce platform. You will design and develop Node.js services and APIs, collaborate closely with front-end engineers (React), and ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and performant at high traffic volumes.
This role also requires practical, hands-on use of modern AI tools in day-to-day development. You will use AI to accelerate delivery, improve code quality, and support troubleshooting and analysis while maintaining strong engineering judgment, sound security practices, and high standards for maintainability.
What you will do
  • Build and scale high-performance backend services and APIs (REST and service-to-service integrations) that power core eCommerce workflows (catalog/search, pricing/promotions, cart/checkout, orders, identity) with strong performance and reliability across services, databases, and integrations.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers to define contracts, improve end-to-end performance, and deliver smooth user experiences.
  • Implement security best practices including authentication/authorization, secrets management, secure coding, and data protection.
  • Write clean, testable, reusable code with strong observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and production readiness.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate delivery and improve quality (scaffolding/refactoring, test creation, troubleshooting, documentation), while validating and revising AI-generated output for correctness, security, and maintainability.
  • Apply secure usage practices for AI tools, including avoiding sensitive data exposure and following internal guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and participate in an on-call / after-hours support as needed.
  • Partner with data and analytics teams as needed, including supporting ETL/data pipelines and analytics-oriented backend integrations.

What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of professional backend development experience with Node.js.
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills and experience building scalable APIs.
  • Experience with MERN stack development and close collaboration with React front-end teams.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (design, queries, indexing, performance tuning).
  • Experience building and integrating services in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
  • Working knowledge of security practices for web applications and APIs (OAuth/JWT, OWASP concepts, encryption, etc.).
  • Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with clear written and verbal communication.
  • Proven experience using AI-assisted development tools in daily work (for example, coding assistants, LLM-based troubleshooting, test generation, and documentation drafting).
  • Ability to integrate AI tools into an engineering workflow while maintaining rigorous code review and testing standards.
