Job description

Physical Therapist

The Ulster BOCES Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning (CITL) Student-Based Programs is seeking a physical therapist for a full-time, 10-month position for the 2026-2027 school year. Experience working with special needs children preferred. Appropriate NYS license to practice and fingerprinting required. All Civil Service rules and regulations apply.

Ulster BOCES provides programs for students ages five through twenty-one who are identified as needing specialized programs and/or supports according to their Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education programs are offered at Ulster BOCES sites in Port Ewen, NY and in leased classrooms in component school districts. They have been developed and offered to meet the specific needs of our students in order to assist them in realizing their potential to achieve both academically and socially.

The following programs are available in special class configurations of 12:1:1, 8:1:1, 8:1:2, 6:1:2 and 4:1:2. All classes are staffed by a full-time special education teacher and either one or two teaching assistants (additional supplementary 1:1 aides may be requested for individual students as per Committee on Special Education recommendations). Multiple programs are available.

Civil Service Classification: Competitive. Merit and fitness examination applies.

Salary commensurate with experience and training. Salary range: $67,765 - $79,457.

General responsibilities: A physical therapist is assigned to students in special education who are targeted for this service by the local school district Committee on Special Education.

Specific duties:

  • Implements program for children identified for physical therapy services.
  • Analyzes data from physical therapy and other educational evaluation results.
  • Develops short and long term goals, working with other staff within the school to coordinate development of programs.
  • Documents the outcomes to be achieved, selecting the methods and environment to accomplish goals.
  • Prepares and sets-up treatment environment and individual plans each day for children scheduled.
  • Evaluates children in classroom for possible services and/or recommendations.
  • Coordinates physical therapy programs with the total educational curriculum.
  • Assists with the supervision of students.
  • Provides classroom consultation to teachers and staff regarding the identified special needs of students.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Work schedule: 10 month schedule, September through June Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 2:40 p.m.
