Job description

The Therapeutic Mentor will provide therapeutic skill-building support to children and adolescents ages 3-21 in homes, schools and community settings. Therapeutic Mentors work in collaboration with the client's treatment teams to assist the youth in learning new skills to manage the effects resulting from social, emotional, psychological, and developmental struggles. The TM requires knowledge and experience with children and young adults with a variety of high-risk behaviors.
Services include supporting, coaching, and skill building focused on age-appropriate daily living skills, age-appropriate social skills in many different environments (home, school, and community), emotional regulation skills, interpersonal communication skills, and problem solving and conflict resolution skills. The position requires evening and weekend hours.
Salary $20.00 to $22.00 per hour
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Engage youth in home, school, and or community activities in order to teach new strategies and build new skill sets
  • Meet with youth in their homes and community settings in order to work on goals outlined in the youth's treatment plan
  • Maintain weekly (and as needed) communication with family, therapeutic treatment team, and community collaterals to provide updates on progress toward treatment goals
  • Participate in all treatment team meetings as needed and, when appropriate, assist the youth in communicating his/her needs to the treatment team
  • Ensure that all services are provided in a professional and strengths-based manner
  • Ensure that all services are provided according to Insurance Performance Specifications
  • Maintain accurate clinical charts and follow all clinical documentation timelines and requirements
  • Participate in all administrative functions of this position, including actively participating in weekly supervision and attending weekly team meetings
  • Must meet agency productivity requirements
  • Follow all agency safety protocols

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must have a valid driver's license, car, and car insurance. Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
One of the following is required:
  • Bachelor's degree in a human service field from an accredited university and 1 year of related experience working with youth
  • Associates degree in a human service field from an accredited school and 1 year of related experience with target population
  • HS diploma or GED and at least 2 years of experience working with children/ adolescents / transition age youth
