Tucson is a city in and the county seat of Pima County, Arizona, and is home to the University of Arizona. It is the second-largest city in Arizona, with a population of approximately 550,000. Tucson is the second most-populated city in Arizona behind Phoenix, both of which anchor the Arizona Sun Corridor. The city of Tucson is also a major hub for the Union Pacific Railroad's Sunset Route that links the Los Angeles ports with the South/Southeast regions of the country.

Located in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, the Davis-Monthan air force base is home to 11,000 airmen from 34 unique mission partners, which support four combatant commanders around the globe every day. Over the years, Davis-Monthan AFB has earned a proud history of distinction and most recently was awarded the 2018 commander and chief's installation excellence award as the best base in the air force. The 355th wing is the host unit for the installation in addition to its primary mission of deploying, employing, and sustaining combat search and rescue and attack airpower in support of combatant commanders anywhere in the world. Additionally, Davis-Monthan AFB is home to the 12th air force, the 309th aerospace maintenance and regeneration group, the 55th electronic combat group, the 214th attack group of the Arizona air national guard, the 943rd rescue group of the air force reserve, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection among many others. The base and the city of Tucson have grown and thrived together over the years. • Receive patients and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate the fear of examination. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
• Operate facility-provided ultrasound scanners. Operate linear, sector, endovaginal, and 3D transducers as well as pulse and color Doppler capabilities of provided scanners.
• Receive and interpret requests or instructions for diagnostic ultrasound scans; perform daily warm-up and assigned quality control checks of the ultrasound scanners. Arrive, patients, schedule appointments, depart patients, prepare and process examination requests and related records, digitally upload diagnostic imaging files and reports to Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), create compact disks with diagnostic images, send and receive faxes, complete administrative logs. Enter and maintain data in radiology information systems and PACS.
• Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations including but not limited to: abdominal, superficial, aorta, carotid, breast, upper and lower extremity deep vein thrombosis, and pelvic sonography exams, including imaging of all pelvic anatomy to attain accurate assessment of suspected pathology; and endovaginal sonography exams to obtain an accurate assessment of suspected pelvic pathology.
• Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans of the affected area.
• Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned.
• Use a detailed understanding of diseases of anatomy to accomplish effective ultrasound scanning.
• Advise the radiologist of the results of the examination and provide them with a preliminary diagnosis.
• Notify radiologists of significant scans requiring immediate attention.
• Maintain and clean ultrasound equipment on a regular basis in accordance with Radiology department standards. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for ultrasound examinations. Supplies will be acquired from the department supply closet or requested through the supply custodian. Recommend necessary monthly repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
• Make minor adjustments to equipment. Differentiate artifacts from normal or pathological processes and recognize electronic equipment limitations. Program the examination equipment, set up the machine, and scanning techniques to be employed.
• Responsible for funding and maintaining continuing education units to maintain status as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by ARDMS. New developments and changes in the field will be recommended to the section chief which would improve the operation of the ultrasound section.
• Attend and participate in flight meetings, official Medical Group functions, and professional staff meetings.
• Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Graduation from a medical sonography training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
• Current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, Inc. (ARDMS).
• A minimum of 1 year of full-time experience within the last 2 years in a clinical or hospital setting, and ultrasound scanning competence in the exams specified within the core duties.
• Possess and maintain a Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
