Job description

As a Transmission Design Engineer, you will design, analyze, and implement the conceptual, preliminary, and final design of transmission and distribution lines to ensure safe and reliable power delivery. You will work under the direction and mentorship of a Project Engineer to develop design calculations, drawings, specifications, and other documents for construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and design high-voltage transmission lines, poles, and substation structures, performing structural, electrical, and load flow analyses to ensure system performance and reliability
  • Utilize PLS-CADD and other specialized software to create virtual models of transmission lines, generate structural designs, and develop staking plans
  • Prepare appropriate materials lists for transmission components, considering factors like terrain, weather, and electrical load
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and regulatory standards, including local, state, and federal regulations and industry codes like NESC
  • Develop detailed staking sheets that specify pole or structure locations, dimensions, and configurations, providing critical information for field crews
  • Assemble complete construction packages that include the plan and profile sheets, stringing charts, bills of materials, staking sheets, and foundation details
  • Review and provide quality assurance for engineering deliverables, ensuring the accuracy of all technical documents
  • Interface with clients, contractors, and other engineers to communicate technical details and support project execution
  • Coordinate project timelines and provide technical support during construction and implementation phases

Qualifications

  • BSCE, BSME, or BSEE from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
  • 1+ years of experience in transmission line design preferred
  • EIT certification and plan to obtain PE license
  • Fundamental knowledge of transmission and distribution engineering principles, codes, and standards
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and AutoCAD a plus
