Job description

We're seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead structural steel and precast construction projects for a well-established specialty contractor serving Southeastern Wisconsin. In this role, you'll oversee commercial and industrial projects from project handoff through closeout, ensuring they are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate has a proven background managing structural steel erection projects and understands the coordination required between fabrication shops, field crews, crane operations, precast suppliers, and general contractors. Experience with miscellaneous metals, ornamental iron, and precast erection is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage commercial and industrial structural steel and precast construction projects from project handoff through final closeout.
  • Coordinate field operations with Superintendents, Foremen, fabrication teams, crane companies, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors.
  • Review structural steel shop drawings, erection drawings, contracts, specifications, and project documents to ensure successful execution.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, manpower plans, procurement, equipment logistics, and material deliveries.
  • Monitor project costs, labor productivity, forecasting, billing, and overall financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and project documentation.
  • Resolve field issues, sequencing conflicts, and installation challenges while minimizing project delays.
  • Maintain strong communication with owners, architects, engineers, fabricators, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects comply with all safety regulations, contract requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Lead project closeout activities, including punch lists, final documentation, client turnover, and warranty coordination.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in structural steel erection.
  • Direct experience managing commercial or industrial structural steel erection projects is required.
  • Experience with precast concrete erection, miscellaneous metals, and ornamental iron projects is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience working for a structural steel erector, steel fabrication company, or specialty steel contractor is required.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection sequencing, shop drawings, contracts, scheduling, procurement, and project financial management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates located in Wisconsin or within commuting distance of Southeastern Wisconsin are strongly preferred.
  • General commercial construction project management experience without structural steel erection experience will not be considered.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Opportunity to manage high-profile structural steel and precast projects throughout Southeastern Wisconsin
  • Stable, collaborative team environment with long-term career growth opportunities
