Job description

Transfer Center Nurse

The transfer center nurse is responsible for inpatient bed management and working in collaboration with the nursing units, environmental services, the emergency department, the surgery department, the cardiac catheterization lab, registration, and physicians in the assignment of patients to beds in the facility based on their admitting diagnoses, physical and psychosocial conditions including infection status, floor specialization, level of care needed, attending physician, bed availability and severity and needs upon presentation to the facility to assure the patient is placed in the most appropriate bed in a timely manner. The Transfer Center Nurse is responsible for tracking data for the facility in regard to types of admissions, bed placement delays, and other quality indicators as required. The nurse is also responsible for communicating with physicians to ensure patients coming into the facility are placed into the correct status and a status order is on the patient's record. This position will also assure proper identification of principal and secondary diagnosis in collaboration with the treating physician.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current GA RN license. BLS required – must be obtained within initial 90-days of employment.

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN recommended.

Experience: Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in nursing, preferably in an acute care setting.

Special Qualifications: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.

Degree of Supervision Required: Indirect and periodic supervision. Must be capable of working independently.
