Summary:


The Emergency Room LVN provides direct nursing care to an assigned group of patients and performs nursing procedures within the scope of their education and demonstrated abilities under the supervision of a RN.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • ย Performs vitals, blood draws, IV insertions, EKGs on patients when indicated
  • ย Provides direct nursing care to assigned patients.
  • ย Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care given. Performs admission, discharge, and transfer procedures.
  • ย Uses the nursing plan of care in daily assignments, able to review, and, under supervision, modify the plan of care.
  • ย Demonstrates ability to observe and record the signs, symptoms, and behaviors including the physiological status of patients, presents proposed revision of interventions, and desired outcomes.
  • ย Delivers the designated nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with the stated medical plan of care.
  • ย Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff of changes in patient status; recognizes patient care priorities, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and potential patient care crises.
  • ย Follows physician's orders in the delivery of nursing care.
  • ย Always maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality of patient health information.
  • ย Safely and properly administers medications and treatments.
  • ย Executes written physician's orders for assigned patients.
  • ย Assembles equipment and supplies for various diagnostic or treatment procedures in the specialty service area; performs or assists others with procedures or treatments.
  • ย Adheres to required infection control, isolation procedures, and aseptic techniques in the delivery of patient care.
  • ย Documents nursing care in all assigned patient records.
  • ย Adheres to internal controls established for department.ย 
  • ย Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • ER experience is required ย 
  • Licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas
  • Current BLS Certification

LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITY

  • ย Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.ย 
  • ย Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • ย Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • ย Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.ย 
  • ย Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • ย Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.ย 
  • ย Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situation.

  • ย Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
  • ย Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • ย Vision: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clearย ย vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
