Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Semi-Truck Mechanical Engineer Expert Witness to join our team of forensic and litigation support professionals. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in commercial vehicle systems, heavy-duty truck design, maintenance, and failure analysis, with a strong understanding of how mechanical issues contribute to trucking incidents. This role is well-suited for a Mechanical Engineer, Heavy Vehicle Engineer, or Trucking Mechanic who has worked extensively with Class 7–8 trucks and understands industry standards and operational practices.

This position provides an opportunity to apply mechanical engineering expertise to legal matters involving truck accidents, vehicle failures, maintenance practices, component defects, and compliance with transportation safety standards.

Requirements

• Conduct forensic evaluations of commercial vehicles, including semi trucks, tractor-trailers, braking systems, steering components, suspension systems, tires, and coupling devices.

• Analyze mechanical failures and determine root cause related to equipment malfunction, improper maintenance, or design and manufacturing defects.

• Review maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair histories to assess vehicle condition and compliance.

• Evaluate adherence to FMCSA regulations, DOT inspection standards, and industry best practices related to commercial vehicle maintenance and safety.

• Prepare detailed expert reports and opinions grounded in engineering principles, forensic analysis, and accepted methodologies.

• Provide expert testimony in depositions and trials, clearly explaining complex mechanical findings in an understandable manner.

• Stay current on developments in commercial vehicle technology, safety systems (e.g., ABS, ACC, ADAS), and regulatory standards.

Benefits

• At least 15 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Truck Mechanics and Maintenance, Commercial Vehicle Systems, or related fields.

• Professional Engineer License (PE), Masters or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

• Deep understanding of truck systems including braking, drive-train, suspension, steering, and load securement mechanisms.

• Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, vehicle repair, inspection, and maintenance standards and practices.

• Experience conducting failure analysis, root cause investigations, and mechanical evaluations.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex mechanical issues and present findings in investigative or legal settings.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to attorneys, juries, and non-technical audiences.

• Prior expert witness or litigation consulting experience is preferred but not required.

What We Offer:

• Dedicated case management and administrative support from initial client intake to billing and collections that allows you to focus on doing what you love, delivering expert insights.

• Marketing and business development initiatives designed to generate new case opportunities and expand your reach and visibility in the legal industry.

• Peer review support and access to a multidisciplinary team of experts across Trucking, Transportation Safety, Digital Forensics, Accident Reconstruction, and related specialties.

• Report writing support and professional development opportunities such as deposition coaching, testimony training, and continuing education in your field.

• Flexible engagement structure.

• A collaborative environment where your expertise is valued, and your contributions directly influence case outcomes.
