Job description

Description:
Remote
Our client seeks a Python-heavy MLOps engineer to own coding, debugging, and maintenance for a fast-evolving pilot ML Python application. The role focuses on backend Python and SQL in a lightly documented codebase, adjacent to machine learning without designing models. You will troubleshoot issues across code, data, and logic, implement business rule changes, and enhance logging to support downstream reporting. This work enables the senior data scientist to concentrate on model development while you drive stability and production-like support for the pilot.
Due to client requirements, applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.

Responsibilities:
  • Trace, analyze, and modify existing Python code.
  • Write and update SQL queries.
  • Debug issues reported by business stakeholders.
  • Investigate unexpected or inconsistent model outputs.
  • Implement business rule and logic changes.
  • Add and enhance logging across the workflow.
  • Support pilot production-like troubleshooting.
  • Identify root cause of issues across code, data, logic, or model behavior.
  • Partner with stakeholders to understand and implement requested changes.
  • Ensure outputs and logs support downstream reporting needs.

Experience Requirements:
  • Strong Python development experience.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience working within existing codebases.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience supporting backend or application logic systems.
  • Ability to work in loosely documented and evolving environments.
  • Experience with version control such as GitHub.
  • Exposure to data science or machine learning applications.
  • Experience with MLOps or model-adjacent systems (preferred).
  • Understanding of model outputs and feature behavior (preferred).
  • Experience with Google Cloud or Vertex (preferred).
