Your Role: The Residential Service Driver is responsible for safely transporting persons served between NeuLife residential homes, vocational sites, medical appointments, community outings, and other approved destinations. This role ensures safe loading and unloading of passengers, compliance with Michigan traffic laws and company transportation policies, and proper vehicle maintenance oversight.
This role may also function as a Direct Care Worker when operationally necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely transport persons served to and from NeuLife locations and approved community destinations.
  • Assist individuals with entry and exit from vehicles, including mobility assistance as needed.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections (lights, brakes, signals, mirrors, tires, fluid levels).
  • Maintain cleanliness and fueling of assigned vehicles.
  • Monitor passenger safety and appropriately address disruptive or unsafe behaviors.
  • Communicate schedule updates, delays, or route changes to persons served and staff.
  • Immediately report accidents, vehicle concerns, unsafe conditions, or traffic disruptions to management.
  • Maintain confidentiality of persons served in accordance with HIPAA and company policy.
  • Complete required transportation logs, documentation, and incident reports per agency standards.
  • Support residential programming or assist staff when assigned.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience required.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License with clean driving record.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to person-centered care and teamwork.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent driving between NeuLife residential homes, vocational programs, and community locations.
  • Exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions during transportation duties.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and reach without restrictions.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or transfer up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with emergency evacuations when necessary.
  • May require evening, weekend, or holiday availability.
