This role serves as the organization's highest-level subject matter expert in PACS, CPACS, vendor-neutral archives (VNA), enterprise viewers, imaging workflows, and imaging informatics, ensuring solutions are reliable, scalable, secure, and clinically effective.
Operating with minimal direction, the Principal Analyst leads highly complex, enterprise-wide initiatives, resolves advanced system and architectural issues, and drives the long-term imaging strategy in close partnership with clinical, operational, IT, and infrastructure leaders. This role acts as a strategic bridge between Imaging, IT, and Infrastructure, translating complex technical and clinical requirements into executable solutions while proactively managing risk, dependencies, and executive expectations.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Information Management, Biomedical Informatics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a directly related field (required)

Experience

  • Ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible experience in Enterprise Imaging, PACS/CPACS, imaging applications, or clinical imaging informatics within a healthcare environment (required)
  • Demonstrated leadership of large-scale, enterprise imaging implementations, upgrades, or migrations
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (preferred)

Core Competencies & Expertise
Enterprise Imaging & Clinical Systems Leadership

  • Serve as the principal technical authority for enterprise imaging platforms, including PACS, CPACS, VNA, enterprise viewers, and integrated imaging solutions
  • Lead Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for complex imaging incidents, including participation in 24/7 on-call rotations as required
  • Independently lead high-risk, high-impact imaging system upgrades, migrations, implementations, and enhancement initiatives
  • Provide deep expertise in imaging workflows across Radiology, Cardiology, and other image-producing specialties
  • Identify and drive optimization opportunities that improve clinical efficiency, diagnostic quality, interoperability, and user experience
  • Partner with vendors and internal IT teams to design and deliver enterprise-grade imaging solutions

Cross-Infrastructure & Technical Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Infrastructure, Server, Network, Security, Cloud, Platform, Desktop, and Integration teams
  • Ensure imaging systems meet availability, performance, scalability, and cybersecurity requirements
  • Lead architectural planning for high availability, disaster recovery, and failover, including DR testing and readiness
  • Partner with Security teams to ensure compliance with privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory standards
  • Monitor system utilization, storage growth, performance metrics, and capacity trends to proactively plan for future needs

Strategic Leadership & Influence

  • Act as a senior escalation point and mentor for junior and mid-level analysts
  • "Manage up" effectively by providing clear, concise, executive-level communication on risks, tradeoffs, timelines, and resource needs
  • Lead complex, cross-functional discussions-often involving sensitive or high-impact decisions-while aligning technical solutions with organizational priorities
  • Research, evaluate, and present solution options with clear analysis of risks, benefits, costs, and operational impact
  • Influence decisions and outcomes across multiple domains without direct authority

Project & Operational Excellence

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for architectures, workflows, implementations, timelines, dependencies, risks, and deliverables
  • Ensure smooth transitions from project implementation to steady-state operations
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to assess imaging system effectiveness and drive continuous improvement
  • Contribute to enterprise initiatives advancing clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise imaging platforms, workflows, and informatics
  • Strong understanding of healthcare IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization, cloud, networking, and security frameworks
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills in complex clinical and technical environments
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into executive-ready communication
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills
  • High degree of professionalism, accountability, and customer focus in a clinical setting
