Job Description

Cluster Engineer


On behalf of our client, Procom Services is searching for a Cluster Engineer for a contract opportunity in Champaign, Illinois. 


Cluster Engineer Job Details


The main duties are building, configuring, and maintaining high-performance computing test beds in an internal research lab. Predominantly, the work involves installation and troubleshooting of Linux based machines and clusters but may also include some Windows based efforts. The candidate will provide systems level troubleshooting of production and preproduction servers and software to support research projects. A level of independence and problem solving is required. Development of scripts for automation of cluster provisioning and configuration may be required. In addition, the maintenance includes support for users of the systems, internal documentation of practices, and general operation and maintenance of the lab spaces. Lab duties also include physical installation of servers with the ability to lift 50lbs. 


Cluster Engineer Mandatory Skills


Two or more years of experience in Linux or Unix system administration and maintenance, including hardware and software troubleshooting.

Experience in one or more scripting languages is required, preferably Perl, Python and/or shell scripting.

Hands-on experience building or maintaining Linux clusters is highly desired but not a requirement.

The following experience / skills are desired, but not required:


- Network file storage and backup administration

- Batch system setup, tuning, and administration

- LDAP setup and administration

- IP and network routing configuration and security

- Server management using out-of-band tools

- Windows system administration
