This is not a traditional teaching role. This position is part of Odyssey Charter School's launch of Delaware's first Career Pathways Microschool in Computer Science and Digital Design-a reimagined high school experience built on real-world learning, flexible structures, and student-driven work. Educators in this microschool serve as facilitators, mentors, and designers of authentic learning experiences rather than delivering instruction through conventional class periods.
With a unique schedule that prioritizes deep work, collaboration, and project-based learning, this role centers on guiding students through hands-on, industry-aligned projects in coding, digital design, and emerging technologies. Students will build portfolios, solve real problems, and engage in meaningful work that extends beyond the classroom.
We are seeking forward-thinking educators who are eager to break from traditional models, collaborate across disciplines, and help build an innovative program from the ground up-preparing students with the skills, creativity, and adaptability needed for the future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate learning for a diverse group of High School students (Grades 9-12) within a microschool model; subject areas include Computer Science (including AP CSA and AP CSP) and Digital Design (including the Adobe Suite of products & Final Cut Pro). Expertise with at least one of these areas are essential, exposure to the other area and a willingness to be an adult learner is essential.
  • Design and implement project-based, interdisciplinary learning experiences that are aligned to real-world applications in coding, digital design, and emerging technologies
  • Serve as a facilitator, mentor, and coach, guiding students through inquiry, problem-solving, and long-term projects rather than delivering instruction through traditional lecture-based methods
  • Support students in developing portfolios of authentic work that demonstrate mastery of technical skills, creativity, and critical thinking
  • Utilize flexible scheduling structures to promote deep work, collaboration, and personalized learning pathways for students
  • Build strong relationships with students to support goal setting, progress monitoring, and postsecondary readiness in career pathways related to computer science and digital design
  • Participate in required summer professional learning, including coaching training and microschool model development, to prepare for successful program implementation
  • Collaborate with colleagues, industry partners, and school leadership to design innovative learning experiences and continuously improve the microschool model
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that is responsive to student needs, interests, and developmental levels
  • Interpret and use data from a variety of educational sources to inform instruction and support student growth
  • Assess student progress regularly using both traditional and performance-based measures; provide timely feedback to students and communicate progress with families as needed
  • Identify and support diverse learning needs, including collaborating with specialists to ensure appropriate accommodations and interventions
  • Encourage the development of independent learning habits, time management, and ownership of learning
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with all school personnel and stakeholders
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth aligned to innovative instructional practices and career pathway development
  • Fulfill all contractual responsibilities, including regular attendance, timeliness, and assigned duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned
