Under general supervision, performs ordinary structural engineering work in connection with the design of steel, wood and reinforced concrete structures. May supervise subordinate engineers and sub-professional personnel.

  • Makes field investigations and reports on conditions of structural components of facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions

Typical office environment. May use standard office equipment and computer terminals.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of professional structural engineering fundamentals as they apply to the construction, operation, rehabilitation , repair and maintenance of sewage treatment plant facilities, sewer collection systems and flood control systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of structural design principles including concrete and steel design codes.
  • Considerable knowledge of recent developments, current literature and sources of information in structural engineering.
  • Skill in performing structural calculations.
  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed structural engineering design and specifications.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in civil or structural engineering and two years of full-time, post-degree structural engineering experience related to the District's activities.

Substitution

Full-time graduate study in structural engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Promotional Requirement
  • One year of service with the District as an Assistant Civil Engineer or Assistant Structural Engineer.
  • Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
